Thanks

Would I be able to change the expansion valve without removing the evaporator?

No, sorry for the blurred photo, all I could find, are you changing it as part of converting to the new gas, or is it faulty ?

Jeff. Do I have to remove the dashboard? Or can I get it by removing the glove box?

No not at all, take the passenger seat out, then the glove box, ducting, and fan motor and your basically there, the heater box is jointed to the ac part by clips and need releasing as well as teh fixings to the car. Of course remember you will need to completely undo the main ac pipes that pass through the fire wall at the back of the engine, and as I mentioned before are you changing it to upgrade to the later gas? if so the pipes are different and the threads do not match ( I know ) and you have to change the evaporator as well as the valve.

Cannot find any pictures on the net, will see if I can find some of mine when I did one, left hand drive is so different do not look it will confuse you.

Ok had to dig deep but eventually found these on a memory stick, ( nick here will remember these lol )

First one shows the unit removed from behind the glove box, as you can see no need to remove dashboard.

Thanks for sharing once again your great depth of knowledge Jeff.

Does this meen that I have to change this valve also so as to run the legal refrigerant?

I have changed the initial engine bay connectors, but that's all.

Sorry for the highjack Sayers.

Jeff which threads are different please, ? I was looking to replace the expansion valve with one from Z1 as I am going to have my system filled with R134 A which the Aircon chap says is a direct drop in for R12, I guess im looking to change the valve for completeness, So really if it means a lot of messing and a new evaporator as well ill leave it be.

No you do not need to change the valve unless your changing the evaporator and pipework, leave as is and it will be fine, just need to run at slightly lower pressure fill.

The picture from Jeff was my Z . It included a new condenser ( 9 months back order from Concept Z) about 5 yrs ago. New evaporator and new compressor and pipes. It all works very cold now. Nick
