is it normal for the radiator fan to to sound like a bus? only dose it in hot weather so assuming its just the viscous locking up

second would be, while cleaning leaves and other rubbish out of my air box i noticed how hot the wires for the fan had become, enough to be almost uncomfortable to hold and discolored the connector. worth taking it apart for a clean?

For the first part, yes it sounds to me that the viscous fan is cutting in due to the warm weather.

That said though, other than when stationary or moving in slow traffic, it should periodically ease off as the incoming flow of air increases..

As for the connector getting hot? looks to me as if it is shorting out, definitely needs investigating.

I would pull it apart and investigate.

Does the fan run when you disconnect the ECU temperature sensor?

Are you talking about the same fan here? One is mechanically powered (viscous coupling), the other electric.

Yeah tbh I think the viscous fan is working, it's fine at idle and low speed. Only when I receive it or when driving dose is get loud.

The fan dose come.on yeah but only when unplugged. Normal driving it stays off.

Think I'll be taking the fan apart and checking the resistance of each winding in the motor and greasing the bearings. Seems to me it's drawing too much current

Talking about the engine viscous fan and the heater blower motor. Was tinkering with this hot weather lol

Check the connector terminals (male and female) for corrosion. Any resistance between the pins with the high current demanded

by the fan will cause the connector to heat up. The wires heating up will be the copper taking excess heat away from the connector.

All of the wire all the way back to the resistor and the loom are hot too though. At work today I'm sure I'll have some time to take it apart and look lol

Thanks
