Importing from Japan

Hello everybody,

This is my first post on this forum so please be kind (to start with at least :) )

Just wondering if any of you have personally imported a zed and how did you find the process? Anything I should be aware of and how do I know what kind of condition it will be in mechanically - will the japanese grading system be enough?

Thanks in advance

James

The whole ordeal isnt that bad but you have to be careful as people in Japan can rip you off. Therefore i have taken a different route and have paid someone to find me one and if im happy with it i will go ahead. The chap has found me one and i am very happy with it. He sorts out all the paper work for you aswell as uk registering, i will pick my car hopefuly in Feb fully taxes and with a warramty.

Thanks guys

I hope to get one in Feburary, that's why I'm considering importing one now. If it doesn't work out I'll just scour auto trader in Feb.

Hopefully someone on here might be selling an manual around then... no offence ment of course, I just know it would have been looked after!

importing is easier than you think....i have just imported one this week and it is as clean as expected...i have kept in touch with my contact in japan the entire length of the deal, and i have made a friend out of it....he has found me another 3 ,300zx's and he can also find me any jap car i want......the one i recently imported is for my wife, but if she can'nt get on with an auto, i will sell it and buy a manual......i changed the timing belt today and will be giving it a good servicing this week.....its got one mother of an exhaust on it aswell....if you want anymore help with importing..just let me know...

Hi, Jiz300, any chance of his email etc? Please.

Also I imported my ZX, it is very easy. Any questions you have that I can answer would be my pleasure. And the paper work is the easy bit.

My biggest concern about doing it myself is once it's over here I find it needs a samll fortune spent on it to get it through MOT and SVA :(

The other option I suppose is to get someone to look after all of that for me.

Ray / Jiz300 - any chance of some contact e-mail addresses etc

please....

I dont know about importing, but if you are planning to buy from people in UK who import from Japan then I can only tell you this.

Stay away from http://www.veilside.co.uk

They sold me a 300ZX TT and after 500Km of driving engine and gearbox gone. And they didnt pay me a penny.

If the car that you import is over 10yrs old then you do not need to have a s.v.a. you just have to put it through an m.o.t.

I am just waiting for my 300 to arrive from japan, I am importing it myself ( very easy ).

you can always give me your needs and i can ask him for you.... as i will be importing more......if you wish to do the work yourselfs when the car gets here then you can buy very cheap, but don't forget you have a few hidden charges.....u have to pay import duty&tax...handling charges at port...etc..plus you have to get the car home when it has cleared customs.....but in the long run you have a cheap car that has low milage and no rust......i think i will be selling the wife's 300 as she prefers manual trans....as i do.....;)

IVE JUST PAYED MY FIRST DEPOSITE OF £500 FOR MY Z, ITS BEING IMPORTED FOR ME BUY A GUY LIVING IN KENT

I WAS VERY WORRIED ABOUT DOING THIS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS BUT IVE TAKEN THE RISK!!

I DO KNOW SOMEONE THAT BOUGHT OFF THIS GUY 2 YEARS AGO AND HE WAS AMAZED BY THE QUALITY, SO I AINT TOO WORRIED!!

HAVE A LOOK AT http://www.futurautos.co.uk/company1.html

Just had a quick look at fururaautos virtual showroom, they are not doing anyone any favours apart from them selves. The MX5s (eunos) are very expensive... good luck..

And unless the Supras listed are modifies, which it does not say is the daxe, they dont know their cars either. 326bhp? from a stock Jap spec Supra? Dont think so....and their FTO's are way too expensive.

Jaffa

returned your mail.........;)

Hi there I imported mine from Japan my self not too hard try to get it from an auction house not a dealer. The auction house will grade the car and you have moor chance it won’t be clocked as it may be from a dealer. I had a friend over there look at it first. Also get a good clearing agent I used.

they where very good .also if you get a car over 10 years old you don’t have to SVA it all you have to do is put a fog light no it I used my two inner brake lights and you may have to change the tyres as the jap ones can be poor and have the wrong seed rating.

All the best Sid.

Hi

Just be very, very careful... please.

Japan is a great deal longer away than 'Clacton'

There are many second hand import car dealers... I would suggest talking to one locally and see what you can find out...
