So, I'll probably regret this but what the hey!!

Just home from a 600 km round trip to go fetch this:innocent::whistling:

1989 Factory manual TT SWB!!

It's missing a few bits and has some rust, also has a "Noddy and Big Ears" themed engine bay:scared::thumbdown:

IMG_5425.jpg

Was running before it had its gearbox, diff, drive shafts, brakes and exhaust stripped off it:whistling:

Needs a bonnet, new trims, and some paint and bodywork, but it'll be a work in progress.

Have to wait and see how I get on, figured I have a fair few spare bits from the other car lying around, so might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb!! :thumbup1:probably struggle with it but at least it'll keep me occupied for a bit:thumbup:

Said I’d do some work on this Z today as it’s been a bit neglected while brakes etc were being sorted. As I’m flat broke for the moment, I decided to try doing some time consuming jobs that would hopefully cost me nothing. Since getting this car the boot lock never worked, so I stripped out the only unbroken bit of trims and investigated why the key wouldn’t turn, if originally assumed it was a replacement barrel lock but after some MO94 (WD40) and a bit of fiddling, I now have all 3 locks working as they should  there was a white coating of oxidation which had caused the mechanism to seize, a simple cost free fix at the end of the day :thumbup1:

I’m between two minds on whether to fit my original Altia centre panel from the blue car or buy a ‘99 spec and ask a certain somebody about getting it to light up ala Altia only in red like on the blue car.:innocent:

Was looking for the dial surrounds on Facebook and realized I had nearly $30 credit in rewards with CZP, so ordered a set of the titanium rings which arrived today:clap:

Didn’t bother going to bed after a 24hour shift to get stuck into the dash of the Z.

So, as funds are tight for the next few months, Redzer is just being put together with what I’ve got lying around spare. :yes:IE. on the cheap to get her to Wales for bodywork, I’m quite pleased that I was able to get these Mintex rear discs for £44 with free shipping, total bargain and at least I can now start test fitting my other set of rear Brembo 4 pots to one of my spare complete rear subframes. They’ve still to go for powdercoat once I’ve test fitted but I can then swap out the skeletal remains of what’s on the car, ready for gearbox and prop shaft:punk::clap:

Managed to put in some time on this today, cut off the top of the brake shield, Zinc coated them, had to adjust the parking brake to fit the rear 350mm discs and did a quick test fit of my brackets and calipers. Also took out the cracked and broken drivers light and threw in a quick replacement just till it goes for paint (have ‘99 spec rears to fit when painted).

I’ve decided I’ll paint this subframe while it’s accessible, Anyone know the best place to get some POR15, I don’t want to split it like I did the other car. Figure this is meant to be good stuff:innocent:

I’ve been quiet on here of late, but as I have my calipers back from coating, I got stuck into rebuilding them and finishing off this rear subframe, plan now is to gather up all the bits for this and try put it back together for transport to Wales for bodywork and paint:thumbup1:

Here’s the finished article

That is rusty mate. Are you getting another or refurb yours?

I’ve 3 spares in the shed  I painted one of them up during the summer and sourced new rear discs, now that the calipers are built, I’ll fit it all together and hopefully manage to fit it myself on the driveway :thumbup1:

Here’s the replacement subframe

Spent a couple of days on this. Fitted up the fresh subframe with aluminum subframe C collars, threw in my rear shocks off the blue Z just for the time being and swapped out the corroded brake lines for new braided ones :thumbup1:

Also test fitted my rear 4 pot Brembo’s.

The Z now has a diff, driveshafts and (shortly) brakes. I removed the flywheel to send it off for a quick skim before fitting a Z1 Performance Street clutch
