Ok, so we all have read a thousand threads about un-even tickover etc but please bare with me on this one.

I have a new PTU (series 2 type) have had throttle pos sensor sorted, cleaned throttle bodies a month ago, but all of a sudden my revs are going nuts. On start up they go straight up to over 2000, this does die down but on slight acceleration, the revs seem to dip first before increasing, causing occasionally to stall and then tricky to start again. At the back of the engine (near dash) on rhs there are the connectors that I have been told control the revs when air-con is on. This is pretty f*cked, could this be my prob? Its very tricky to get to to take on and off. Is there one thing in particular I need to double check? I have ignored the aac valve up to now but could this be a poss cause? Another thing is when cold, the accelerator hardly feels as if its connected unless I depress it about half way down and then it kinds of bursts into life. Kind of an "air" thing maybe?

Thanks for your help & HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thanks Tim-alot of good sfuff there, I've covered most but still a couple of things to work through. I reckon that should be "sticky" for the amount of times you see the question about erratic idle.

Cheers mate.

I have a felling that the throttle cable is getting caught on something, hence the pedal feeling hard until half way. Maybe worth getting someone to push the pedal while you check the throttle cable under the hood.

Stu-it doesn't feel hard at all, just only seems to burst into life until half-way down, but only when cold for first few mins. I will check all suggestions, thanks guys.

I'm pretty sure there is a corroded wire sitting somewhere causing the problem and I am determined to find it cos other than that the Z drives perfect and have gone round the whole car sorting everything out!

A-HA!!!!!!!! did a search and found a thread on a Z with the exact same problems as mine and he also noticed his elec fan was constantly on. On inspecting the temp sensor, the wiring to it was knackered and since having that done has been fine. So I checked mine cos I thought I could hear my fan on the other day-and thats the first time in 2 years! -and yes, wiring to it was knackered. I will get the soldering iron out this weekend and sort it. I reckon this will cure it... the advice on here comes up trumps again.

I'm looking forward to having a long chat with you on the 26th mate. You seem to have done everything I am about to do, so rather than learn from my mistakes, I can learn from yours (if you made any that is).

I'm currently running an idle of 2k at start up then 1K when warm which changes to 1.5k when it feel like.
