Bought a Widescreen TV a few days ago it all works fine but while playing my Xbox on it, about a 1/4 of the screen on the left flickers. Not much when you look at a still picture you can easliy notice it. The right side of it does it too but only for about 1cm in to the screen and the same with the top. The area that flickers is slightly blured. You can see with writing on the screen, where on the left is slighly blured and towards the middle its sharp. I wasnt happy at first but I know that large screens and consoles dont mix very well.

I took my Xbox down to some ones house who has 28inch widescreen like mine but a different and cheaper modle. Mines a Panasonic and thiers is a Toshiba. There was a slight flicker of the left of the screen but it was only the very edge and it was only noticable if you really looked for it.

This has made me wonder whether my TV is working correctly. I have bought a new AV cable for my Xbox thinking its that, a RGB one which is better quality but the flicker is still there.

My Xbox is nowhere near the TV so its not interveriance from that and there are no other electrical appliences near it. The closest is are the plugs 4 foot bellow the TV.

However the confusing thing is that the TV is fine, no flicker. DVD's are great which are played on my Xbox so its not the Xbox interfering.

What do you people think? Do you think I have a problem with my TV? Should I take it back?

I run my x-box on two Tv's. one's a standard 29" Toshiba where it works fine.

The other is a 32" Widescreen Toshiba again no problems what so ever.

It's usually the refresh rate of your TV that will cause problems with consoles (especially the newer ones like X-box, gamecube and PS2). You'll probably find that if you tried an old playstation consol you wouldn't have any trouble.

Saying this the problem can usually be sorted by using a SCCI cable rather than a normal aerial. You should be able to buy these from most electrical shops. you could also try the X-box forum as I'm sure others have had the same problem.

No, trans-vestites aren't my thing..........but I think Eddy Izzard is funny!:D

MMMM just wondering ,could be that your tv is 100hertz apposed to 50 hertz, just an idea!

No its 50Hz not 100hz. I hear that for cames you should turn it off but I dont have it.

mine is a 44 inch rear projection Stu and if there was going to be any problems with xboxs and widescreen TV it would show up on mine big time, you got mail but sorry I cant help further. Have you switched the box to 16:9?

Id take the box back myself to rule it out, easier than carting a 32" CRT back to Currys... ;)

Good luck and all the best for 2003.

Are you running box through AV1 OR AV2 SCART TO TV,try swapping them over, normaly the AV channels cannot be fine tuned, which could be the case, see if they can be tuned first, failing that connect to uhf/aerial in,then retune to a spare channel,.If you have it going through a video that can cause probs as it may try to out put signal as pal 60 not pal 50,if all fails will think on it some more, Tony

I know a bit about TV but nothing about Xbox (or any games console). But you are far more likley to get a decent picture by using an RGB, SCART or S-Video connection than a co-ax aerial connection.
