Afternoon all,

Just been doing the usual rounds on eBay, Gumtree, etc. when I came across this zed.

Now, I’m cautiously putting up a thread about a car for sell. Although, given what I’ve been reading lately this may bite me in the arse… :whistling:

Anyway, it’s a genuine question, born out of my own curiosity.

The advert (below) makes reference to a “Nismo factory development” 300ZX. Now I’ve never heard of such a beast, nor have I ever heard of a “300ZX XL”

Can anyone offer up any information here?

Lets be honest if you went and spent 10k on a car with 'Halfords motability customer exclusive decals' on the back you deserve to be fleeced

haha, this reminds me of Keyser Söze in The Usual Suspects , where the cop realises he has created the story from things around him after letting him go...

its an XL version of the Z, hence an XLZ

its a 300, and number 5 from the exclusive Nismo Tein program, hence its 3005

XLZ 3005, it must be true, as the reg plate that has been put on AFTER all that happened, just coincides and backs up his story

We have an update!

thank you for messaging me about the Z32.

Because of your perfectly reasonable request for further verification I have done some digging on the car as I was simply going off what the owner (who I have known for a long time and he is not type to tell tall tale) has told about the car ever since before he first bought the car over to our place.

He almost always brings his GTR M16 or his TVR Tuscan (which we rest-modd'ed for him) but always spoke about this Z32TTXL something quite special.

As I mentioned in the listing update, there is not any spec sheet from NISMO present but the info must have come from somewhere for the importer to pass it on. It is too obscure and specific for someone to make up and it does fit with the 4 missing years from build to first registration in Japan. There is a mysterious and undated handwritten note on Crosby Park Nissan Headed paper noting the Chassis number and saying "Production 9009" but this obviously can simply be derived from the chassis number and, at least from Nissan UK, cannot tell us who owned the car before.

I also mention in the update that I had got the wrong end of the stick about the suspension kit. I thought the TEIN equipment had always been on the car, this was my assumption not something the owner told me, but I came across the receipts for the sourcing and fitting in the history of the car - so this was not the reason the car was being tested after all. As there never was an official NISMO Z32TT release maybe, after evaluating a number of cars they decided to concentrate on the more popular Skyline and Silvia rather than the slow selling Fairlady Z... who knows.

I am still digging, and anything useful I will add to the listing update but I have no reason not to trust what the owner has told me so I hope I will find something to share which will back it up.

Best regards,

Sounds very much as if the owner (who isn't the person selling it on eBay) has been slightly hoodwinked... :(

Maybe his nickname/forum name is "Nismo" and it's his 5th attempt to try and build a decent Zed:whistling:

Wow, just out of interest I did a vin check on it...

It's a 1990 not even the '94 it's claimed to be,

It's been miss registered by the look, dvla seem to think it's 94, but it was built Sept '90 according to its vin.

Well I'd avoid this at all costs..

hi where did you do a vin check , :thumbup1:

I work for Nissan, used our system, and the vin on record with the dvla for that zed, not known our system to be wrong, and it's supported by things like the early seatbelt mounting etc pointed out by the other members,

( coincidentally had it been a Nismo, autech, special production vehicle it should have shown on our system)
