Hi Wedge and welcome to the mad house.

Advert sounds a bit on the cheap side to me. Also doesn't say if it's auto or manual.

Whereabouts are you?

Best thing to do is find someone on here near you to go with you to look at a car.

Ivan

:D

Cheers for the advice mate.

I have just noticed that their is a car for sale on here right near me, i live in Bury St edmunds so it is only 30 miles away.It is in the for sale section at the top at the mo, zx01473 is selling it.

:D Wellcome to you wedge22,hope you enjoy the experience of owning a zed,if you can try and find someone who owns or has owned a zed to go with you when looking,it will be invaluble,i am on my second zed,and in hindsight i should of done the same with my first, but you live n learn as they say, hope you find a good one for that kind of money, cheers,Tony;)

Thnax for the advice Tony.Pity i dont really know anyone with a zed already to come and help me look one over, but it also means that no one i know has one :)

Wedge,

If you don't know anyone (and do ask on here as there's plenty of helpful people around). There'a a place called Arriva Nissan (I think) somewhere in the East near you which has a reputedly decent mechanic named Bob. If you can get to speak to him, you could offer him £50 to come and look at the car a second time if you liked it at first viewing. It'll be the best £50 you spend and, with him being a main dealer mechanic, his opinion should have enough credibility to have the price reduced if he finds things wrong.

Good luck and, most importantly, don't rush into a purchase. There are more and more dogs out there and they are seriously expensive to fix.

Dave

wedge,

first of all welcome. like hairsy says, take your time, i know thats hard to do, as you are probably dying to own one, just like i was when i was looking. but if you get a dog then you can kiss goodbye to any money you have or may have in the next year or two.

i would say the car MUST have full service history, or been recently rebuilt. these cars need to have oil changes everty 3000 miles, not 12000.

try and get a car with loads of receipts and more importantly (in my view anyway) i would look to buy a car off this forum...why?...because the guys on here are mad about there zeds and thoroughly look after them, therefore when one comes up for sale it is probably a well looked after one. however, look out for people who register on this site just to sell a car. i would only buy from someone who has been a member for a while. this will mena 2 things...1) you may have to pay more money for t he car and 2) you may have to wait a while. the choice is your but if i was buying a zed again, then that is what i would do.

good luck and i know one thing.....you'll have a lot of fun when you get one.

cheers

steve

thanx for the advice guys.

so what do you all think to the zed that is for sale by ZX01473

on these very forums

Wedge,

It's a new user so you won't get any history on the car from the forum - unless of course someone knows it personally ?

That's not to say it's a bad car - just that it's equivalent to seeing an autotrader ad.

People tend to steer away from '89 cars as they were the first to come off the production line. I'm only aware of one significant change that was made in 1990 though and that was to the auto box.

Dave

Mines an 89 on a G plate. Why do people steer away from them ?.

I don't have any problems with mine at all. ??

Word of warning, your max 3.5K will leave you very vunerable if funds are required to say do a big belt service or replace anything in the weeks after first owning the car(tyres, exhaust etc)

Also good advice from Steve (aka wild turkey ) about servie records etc ... BUT remember if you buy cheap and £3.1k is VERY cheap you must accept a less than perfect zed.

We are all guilty of wanting a bargain and wanting to buy at low prices but change our tune when selling wanting max price. Cant have it both ways guys

Also It makes more sense to look at an early zed with good solid service history, good bodywork etc rather than except a later poor quality zed just to get a newer reg.

Having owned a few of these cars across the range of age, condition and price I thing it is fair to say throw out the rule book for buying normal cars and be very very aware that a good zed is lots of FUN but a bad zed will empty your pockets very quickly.

Good luck with the zed hunting

As with any car, people tend to believe that there will be 'niggles' with the first models off the production line. As I said, the only one I've heard of was the autobox (if I remember rightly there was an internal lubrication alteration).

Doesn't mean they're bad cars though - I'd have one if I could afford to !

Im in Wigan only a few miles away. Infact I bought my car from some one near or on the way to Bury.

If you need any help or want me to take you for a spin just ask. :D

Cheers for the offer of help mate but i am in Bury St Edmunds in SUFFOLK not Bury in Lancashire :)

Is this car worth looking at guys,

Nissan 300 ZX Targa , 1988 E Reg , Red, Coupe, 2 Doors. 2 Owner, Alloy Wheels, Central Door Locking, Electric Windows, Leather Trim, Power-Assisted Steering. £2,695

Or should i steer clear of an 88

Pre 90 (or technically late '89) will be a Z31 NOT a Z32.

So, the ad you quoted was for a Z31, which is a totally different beast - wedge shape, straight 6, single turbo etc. etc.

If you have a purchase price of £3.5K in mind, have you considered the running costs, Insurance, fuel, consumables, tyres etc? If not, have a search on here, a Zed will cost you at least £2.5K a year to keep on the road and that's if you don't drive it much and nothing breaks/drops off.

I'm not trying to be a 'damp squib' but these things must be considered, my Twin-Turbo costs me 30p per mile to run, and it's been very reliable and I've done ALL the servicing myself, I hate to think of what it would have cost if I hadn't been able to handle a spanner, multimeter and soldering iron!

Good luck in your quest. :D

WAYHAY! :D

Hehehehe.

Wondered what you meant by St. Edmunds

wedge,

You could always try Jeff at Zedworld (zedworld.co.uk). He does everything for z's including vehicle inspections for people and inspected the car that I am hopefully collecting this coming week!!! First class service and a nice bloke despite what some people think of him on here.

Whilst he is in Tamworth it aint that far to you.

Just a thought, oh and welcome!

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Welcome to the forum..

Few thinks to look at.

a) Engine noise (any ticks not normal). A small test is to open the hood and Rev the engine at 2/2.5K and listen for anything unusual.

b) Tyres and breaks

c) Paint (check if its beeing hit before)

d) Electrics (a/c,lights,radio,cd,power window, central locking...E VE RY THIG)

e) Look the condition under the car. It reveals a lot.

f) Ask for a Test drive and check Gearbox and engine

If everything looks fine then hit the gas and dissappear. :D :D :D

By the time they realize what happen you will be at home

Cheers m8, I was just wondering what the specs are for a TT zed jap import as i have no idea, ie the 0-60 , top speed etc.

0-60 around 5.6 secs as standard

top speed depends on if it been deristricted. jap restrictor was 112mph iirc, uk 155mph. deristricted 170mph+ depending on mods ;)

Cheers PaulC.

How important is FSH on an import as the one I am looking at has no history just MOT's,hopefully it will have receipts for all the work done to it, it has had new discs and pads all round and new rear suspension. I have been told by the owner that drivers leccy window does not work and that their is a dent in a sill which he has been quoted £150 to repair.I am going up their with amate who has done bodywork repairs for 13 years so he will see anything dodgy straight away.
