Now then everyone, first of all i'm new to this forum and new to the world of the 300ZX, so let me excuse my lack of knowledge to start with (not a complete novice, pretty handy with spanners, hammers.. well especially hammers..)

The car i'm asking about is a 1993 TT Auto, with a few mods, including an apexi boost controller and afm enrichment, which I do not fully understand, but have a good idea of

I have searched and searched for this issue i'm having and so far drawn a blank. I've seen a few posts and threads that are similar, but none quite cutting the mustard.

The problem I have with mine is it will sometimes fire straight up but mainly it will take a good few seconds / a couple attempts of cranking before it actually fires. As far as I can see, the fuel pressure solenoid has been bypassed so I don't think that is the issue. A little lumpy when it first fires up, rough idle for a couple seconds, but once it is running it is fine, no misfires or anything. Pulls like it should and what not. It's more often than not cranking for a while before it roars into life. I can't work out if keeping my foot hard down on the go-faster pedal helps it start or not.

I've read all kinds of horror stories about replacing the CAS if that is faulty, like not getting it right and struggling to get it running again.

Any help / advise will be greatly appreciated . I haven't yet checked for codes, but shall be doing shortly

Cheers!

Eddie

I think what he's getting at is, you can't...

I'm pretty sure having checked codes myself that I do know what i'm talking about.

Can you fault what ive added to this thread?

I was simply advising a new member with an issue that's clearly worrying him to choose his information sources wisely, that's all.

Yeah mate that's fine, but it came with slagging me off so y'know...

Don't be so sensitive, newbie....

Aaaaanyway: as I said, Eddie - if you fancy a ride up to County Durham, we can get your Zed on Consult and see if we can find any issues lurking around.

Mondo, I have already ordered the fleabay-special diagnoatic tool, I will see if that comes up with anything first of all as i'm a tight Yorkshireman and that. But thank you, I like to keep my options open and if I draw a blank I shall be in touch

After doing abit of digging in my spare time I have come up with nothing. It has got to the point where I think it isn't going to start at all so I don't want to take it out. The starting issue is getting more and more frequent, mainly when hot. If I leave it for a week or so, come to it to start it, it fires up straight away. I got hold of a proper compression tester and the ape that had the car before me hasn't been kind to the spark plug holes, and feels gut-wrenchingly soft when putting the plugs back in. Fuel, and spark present, I wonder if I have to pull the engine out and to pieces unless anyone has come across this before and would like to share?

Did you manage to get any results from your compression test?

I know what you mean about the spark plug threads, I don't like the sound of that at all.

Definitely need to check them out somehow.

Have you managed to cover any of the pointers from Jeff?

Like the timing for example? (engine fully warmed up)

Again I didn't do all cylinders, only 4, I didn't like the feel of the plug holes and pretty much got the picture from there. All around the 100 - 115 psi range. I didn't do anything with the timing no, as I didn't know where to start, and couldn't see a problem if it occasionally fires up with no drama or even a single seconds worth of cranking. I've checked connections, vacuum lines and what not. Haven't measured fuel pressure, as I don't have the equipment to do so either
