Posted October 4, 20168 yr Hi all. I was at japshow at the weekend and the 300 was running great. I turned the engine off and went for a look around. I come back and start the car and its missing on one cylinder. I have located the cylinder and swapped plugs and coil packs over and it is still missing on the same cylinder. The spark plug is wet so im assuming the injector is ok. So all I have left is the wiring to the injector or a compression issue. (Really hoping its not a compression issue) Any ideas? any more I can do to check things? What sort of multimeter readings should I get off the wiring to the coil pack? I dont have a multimeter yet so if any other ways to test? Im really worried its gonna be a costly fix. (New engine etc) Cheers Mike
October 4, 20168 yr When you swapped the spark plug and coil, did you check if there is a spark coming to them?
October 4, 20168 yr no I did not check for spark. Whats the best way to check this? Ok if it is a bad connection and the engine has been left a while just try starting it again first, sometimes the connection will be ok and misfire gone, this happens a lot with injector connections actually. Any way remove the offending cylinder coil pack with spare spark plug in, lay it on the engine so the outer part of the plug is touching down, and start engine see if you have a spark, sounds like you will not, if that is the case its back to the connections for the PTU. Compression will not be the issue, cannot happen like that. Jeff
October 4, 20168 yr To safe all that faf in the future get one of these, brilliant just touch by the coil pack and it not only tells you if the coil is triggering also if the plug is firing and how well, would not be without mine, works on any car with coil packs. Jeff
October 4, 20168 yr iv had this problem a few times and always been my ptu connection. And considering it was running fine when you turned it off i cant imagine there's a mechanical fault.
October 4, 20168 yr Author ok.. It is the ptu.. when I hold it in a certain direction it runs spot on.. cant get it to run without holding it so will have to get new connection block

October 4, 20168 yr Author i have cleaned all the pins. Would rather get new connectors for piece of mind. wheres the best place to get them?
October 4, 20168 yr i have cleaned all the pins. Would rather get new connectors for piece of mind. wheres the best place to get them? Do you have a series 1 or 2 ptu. Might be a good opportunity to get the later style ptu.
October 4, 20168 yr series 1 i have. the large one with the heat sink I don't want to start an argument, but if you could want to get the series 2 for piece of mind. You can buy loom harness converters, or you can just wire them up yourself if you fancy it, or just keep the series 1 for a cheap fix.
October 4, 20168 yr I have a ptu if u want it? R u sure it's that? Because I changed mine to find it was not the ptu! That's how I have a spare one! Art
October 4, 20168 yr Author Its not the ptu, its the connector that connects to it. But.. I can not find the old style connectors, only the new style so will have to replace with new ptu and wiring harness.

You can get some old looms from a breaker, but it would be just the same effort imo than to put a series 2 in.
