High Revving on Start

So I'm wondering how normal this is, as it's something my car does occasionally. Sometimes when it first fires, it applies some serious throttle input. This morning, for instance, it must've hit about 3,000 RPM. I'm sure the neighbours must have loved that at 6 AM, and it wasn't even a particularly cold morning.

I know in general this is pretty normal behaviour on a cold start, but surely a VG30 shouldn't do it that much?

Do you mean on initial start it blips up to 3000rpm, then instantly drops to a more typical cold start rpm of around 1000-1200rpm ?

or does it idle at ~3000rpm while in cold start mode ?

Exactly. I don't think it was even on high idle this time once it settled.

Have you checked the air regulator is functioning correctly?

How would I check that? The idle speed does usually settle down to normal after the engine's warmed up.
