Hi guys, I'm looking for a second opinion...

So bought my zed, had a few issues to sort out namely the pas lines but it's been a good reliable car, the engine and turbo's are spot on.. However last week I go to pull off and I had to have it at high revs to even pull off.

It won't shift past second gear neither manually or automatically. I've changed the fluid, I've done the A/T diagnostic test and no faults are being found...

TBH I had a similar problem on my Aristo and it turned out to be a faulty speedo converter that was limiting the revs, that seemed like the clutch was slipping too, now my car is still in KMH so it obviously doesn't have a converter but could it be a faulty speedo?

Or... Worst case- has my box shat itself? Seems mad that it's just gone like that out the blue if it has, any other ideas lads?

It could be an electrical gremlin that makes the box thinks it is in 2 instead of drive. Or just a corroded connection.

Could be Speedo as you say but then wouldnt it change into second at the wrong speed.

My old box wouldn't change into 4th but it was grinding like heck and burnt all the trans fluid, the new box now grinds as well so I wouldn't necessarily blame it on the box malfunctioning.

I don't know per say but I know the solution is a manual [emoji14]

Someone will be able to give you some diagnostic steps most likely.

Not sure of all the facts but, I have a series 4 98 model, Auto TT. Its a JDM so speedo is in kmh. We fitted a delimiter/mph converter to the back of the clocks. Car seemed OK till I got on decent straight, well the auto box went nuts, it was not changing gears correctly and over revving, like the clutch was slipping. The MPH conversion was fine but the box was a mess. I took it off, the box went back to normal straight away. I understand it has something to do with a 16 bit ECU, I believe the delimiter/converter only work correctly on earlier 8 bit ECU's, however, as I say I am not entirely sure this is correct. For now, I drive in kmh and don't worry about the delimiter. Ill sort out in the winter....

Yeah mines still in KMH mate but I know exactly what you mean, had the same problem and this ones very similar which makes me think/hope its an electrical problem rather than the box itself.

Yeah I was considering manual but this has come completely at the wrong time for me so if it is the box i need to source an auto and get it fitted as soon as possible tbh so a conversion is out the question for now... unless someone had all the bits to fit with no mucking about and was selling it for a good price...

Its like the box wants to give more and change but the speedo is holding it back, which is why im thinking its not changing gear but i have been told it's the actual box so obviously I'm now going with the fact I'm gonna have to fit a new box, just dont want to go through the trouble if it's gonna be something simple like a TCU or speedo but I haven't come across this problem before with fairladys as this is my first so I don't want to waste anytime if it's going to be pointless.

I wouldn't rule out the box just yet, probably an electrical issue as said, but there is a manual conversion kit £600 delivered from someone on the fb group if that's any help.

Have you checked and cleaned connectors for the auto box?

Here's a picture of them.... Check they aren't green and corroded and snuggly fitted together.

Have you checked the throttle position sensor is working ok?

Do you have facebook or at least a way he can contact you so I can pass on?

It was Iftikhar Ali who offered 600 delivered

Is it a TT manual or NA?

He wanted 850 for the manual na zx he was selling

Hmm, my wanted ad was for a tt manual conversion and he said he has a full conversion, 600 delivered. So I would assume its a tt.

Hopefully its a TT one then, could defo be interested depending on what's included and if it's in good condition.

Thanks for that mate.

I passed on the interest and details.

The conversion should include everything from gearbox to pedals to shifter linkage to flywheel etc...

I think you will need another prop as the auto prop is different length to the manual one I believe.
