Hi guys I have 3 problems:

1. I was driving to work this morning and noticed that my "BRAKE" light was on, i thought nothing of it as i know that i need new pads. However, about 5 minute later my "LIGHTS" and "HICAS" lights came on and stayed on. Now I have all 3 lights on and it is worrying me.

2. I have also found a loud noise. This is coming from the radiator fan, one of the "blades" is hitting the one of the pulleys on the enine. How could this have happened and will a new fan fix this.

3. My third problem is that their is a loud gurgling/scratching noise coming from under the gear stick. You can hear it when at traffic lights and it is still audible when rolling (can moving but not in gear) It might be audible when in gear but i cannot hear it due to the twin 4" exaust system on the back of the car.

What can the problems be. I am starting to think if i should get rid of the car and buy something else. I do NOT want to do that though as my 300 is wicked.

By the way its a 1990 TT but with an NA engine i think.

Cheers

Anybody, please :-(

Mr Smith,

I had the same problem with the warning lights, but with the Hicas and brake lights only.

I took my car to have it serviced and my mechanic sorted the problem.

The Hicas light went out when the fluid was topped up and the brake warning light was the sensor for the handbrake, which he adjusted.

So these weren't a problem after all.It may be worth your while getting these things checked out as they may be very straightforward to put right.

Good luck,

F.T.

Cheers mate,

Even though i have checked this out yet, it has eased my worries a bit.

thanks again

as for the fan hitting a pully, make sure the water pump bearing hasnt collapsed causing it to run out of alignment.

Ok, but HTF do i do that :-)

As i mentioned, only one of the blades hits the pulley, not all of them.

Am i right in saying that if the bearing or pulley was out of line then all of the blades would touch not just one?

Anyway, i pick one up tonight from the Nissan stealership and should have it fixed by tomorrow evening.

I will let you know what i find.

Any answers for the other questions?

Cheers

Hi Mr. Smith.

1. Check brake fluid level. If ok I should get the pads changed and see if the brake warning light goes out. Check power steering fluid - normally makes hicas light come on.

2. Haven't got a clue.

3. Check the level in the gearbox. Is it auto or manual. If a manual does the noise stop when putting foot on clutch. Found out mine had no oil the hard way - new box.

HTH

Devil,

Pads are getting changed tomorrow either way.

I will check the PS fluid for the HICAS to see if it needs topping up.

Yeah, its a manual and yeah, it is not as loud with my foot on the clutch pedal. how do i go about checking this and what type of oil should i go for if it needs any?

Cheers

1. the LIGHTS light comes on when a bulb is blown.

2. i had the same thing, the bolt came loose from the front of the aircon compressor, which made the whole pulley slide forward under braking, and foul the fan blade.

when looking into engine bay from front of car, it is pulley on bottom right with spring clutch mechanism on front, see if you can pull it forward manually (engine OFF obviously)

Hi Craig,

i will check the pulley tomorrow as thats when the new fan is being fitted.

If it is loose, what can i do. Could you say that i'm ****3d if it is loose or is it a fairly easy job?

Cheers

Hello Mate,

Listen for the Gurgling noise in the rear of the front wheel arch, if it is loudest there, then it is the AIV's which means absolutley nothing to worry about!!!

Take the filter out of the PS reservoir to check the level as this can get blocked and give a deceptive reading!!

Mark

Not wishing to state the obvious but if only one blade of the fan is hitting the engine is the actual fan knackered??

Or is it that it is misaligned so only one blade ever touches?

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

I have checked my fan and it turns out to be the water pump i think. The fan blades are firmly connected to the pully for the water pump but the actuall pump is a bit loose as it connects to the engine. It is in the garage today getting sorted out. So that is the brakes, fan and water pump taken care of.

Now i just need to know why the HICAS light is coming on even when there is enough PS fluid in the system.

And how i can determine what the noise is coming from the gearbox.

TOPLESS

The noise seems to be coming from under the gear stick and not from the rear of the front wheel arch. I was thinki8ng about taking it to an gearbox re-build shop and see what sort of price i would be looking at to do this, but here in Bahrain it would probably take them about 3 weeks to do it. So i thought b011ocks to that.

Someone over mentioned that it could be the bearing in the clutch or something?

Cheers

My HICAS light used to come on ramdomly, usualy in wet conditions, shortly after I bought the car. Changed the battery to resolve a loud clicking noise from the starter relay and all was well!

No Probs,

I was thinking about the battery as my car still hesitates a bit but is a lot worse at night when i have the lights on. I initially thought about the alternator but thought i would do the battery first.

Haven't done it yet though but probably will when pay day comes around.

:-)

BTW, i have just dropped off a new water pump, fan, and brakes pads (front and rear) to the garage that is fixing mi motor. They told me that i need to change the Clutch Fan (the thing in between the water pump and the fan).

Unfortunately the Nissan Stearlership did not have one so i had to order one from Kuwait of all places. How long is it safe to drive my car for with a defected clutch fan? Will a week be ok or will i break the water pump again?

One more question, are there any other clutch fans that will fit the 300? What about the mitsubishi or the supra?

Cheers
