Ok, I keep hearing about the differences between Jap import and UK cars, that the Jap ones are mostly modded (mine was) and thrashed more than UK, and that they don't have much rust compared to UK.

So my questions are, how come the Japs can thrash their cars so much if 1. they have lower limits than here, that are enforced by Draconian measures (rocket powered NET accross the road to catch speeding bikers!!!! ) 2. They have 10 times more congestion on their roads.

And also.....I understand that Japan is under snow for most of the winter, if so how come their cars don't rot like UK ones?

I haven't heard that they're more thrashed. Actually, I haven't actually heard that they're more modded. I think it's just that when buying a car with limited history (as most imports are), the general recommendation is to avoid mods.

My personal opinion is that a car with some mods, particularly cosmetic ones, will often have been better cared for.

I think there are those who give warnings out because of the '200 mph top speed challenge' kind of thing which goes on around Tokyo in the early hours but I think that it's pretty limited and you'd spot one of those cars by all the stickers down the side !

I know some one who went to Japan to visit a friend, and when they where going back to the airport they where caught speeding, doing 100mph on their motorway. They where pulled over by the police and the driver started arguing with the police officer about how fast she was going. She got the conviction down to 80mph.

The reason they don't rot is they don't use salt on the roads.

I have heard they use some kind of volcanic rock dust or something!?!

Sounds MORE corrosive to me though?

Not sure about Japan, but they definitely use volcanic ash or something similar in New Zealand.
