hope someone can help

Now then ive fitted a tv to the wall and chased the wall to hide all the cables making sure i had all the connections sticking out of the wall a few feet away and easily accessible

Good idea i hear you say....

Well so i though but apparently the 3 hdmi cables i have used are version 1.3

Whats the problem there your asking??

Well shucks it seems that the yamaha amp i have communicates two ways through the hdmi cable allowing audio return channel through the hdmi doing away with the need

For separate spdif cable, also it encoparates "arc" between tv and amp that allowes 1 remote to control both ect again through

The single hdmi cable.

So whats the problem...

Well to get the show to work it requires 1.4 hdmi not 1.3 that ive used

So the question is how do i get the 1.3 to convert to 1.4 without*

Ripping the hdmi through the wall as there stuck in for good

Both have 19 wires inside ive googled a converter but no luck

Any help guys much appreceated

Don't know if it helps but I ran an optical cable from my Onkyo amp in addition to the HDMI 3 cable to my 3D Blu ray player to get full functionality.

Not sure how or why it works, but that was the suggested fix as it then gave an additional audio channel.

The amp will come on with the tv and also play the tv audio back through the hdmi if used with 1.4

im stuck with 1.3 and the amp wont come on using arc and audio wont play through the hdmi without me connecting an optical

the 1.4 supports arc and also audio return channel

HDMI cabling has always been a bit of a minefield, the fall off in signal quality is usually described as a cliff (it's on or Off) HDMI standards have changed in the years from 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc to standard, High Speed and with or with or Ethernet, each meeting new technology and signal structure changes.

1.4 was released to deal with the passing of an Ethernet signals, 3D, Ir and Audio return as well as meeting the 4K resolution standards of modern TV, DVD signals. The 1.3 category cable is high speed but as you have found does not carry the audio return. There is no conversion available to upscale to a 1.4 category cable, but if you have run a spare Ethernet into your wall you can get a SPDIF converter for your audio return.

When i install Home cinema or family room AV I sink trunking into the wall so I can pass cables through at will, I know it doesn't help now bet future proofing your cables for permanent install is the best way to go and for HDMI anyone considering a permanent fix should now be looking at 2.0 standard
