ive recently had a RPS 6 puck clutch & fidanza flywheel fitted to my car, after having it fitted the car would not start. at first it was assumed ther was a problem with the mounting of the starter motor as the bolt holding it in place had stripped the threads in the hole where it is located.

yestarday i helicoiled the hole and fitted the starter tight against the gearbox. the car still wouldnt start. i took the starter of and had a look, after inspecting i am now sure that the starter motor is too close to the flywheel, and is hitting the flywheel instead of meshing with it.

has anyone else had this kind of problem when fitting uprated clutch & flywheel? or any suggestions to rectify would be much appriciated

cheers

aki

Can you give more information on 'won't start' ? Will it turn ? If not, what noise are you getting - nothing ? a single clonk ? a nasty scraping noise which sounds like a starter motor grinding chunks out of a flywheel ?

Did you put the flywheels together to check precise size ?

Can you check a part number to ensure you've got the right one ?

I fitted a fidanza flywheel to mine, the only thing i would say is the centre of the flywheel is a very tight fit over the crank to allow for different expansion rates of an alloy flywheel over a steel one when it gets hot. the instructions stated to carefully scrape away any excess material or heat up on a warming plate before installation to ensure it sits flat on the crank.

Aki mate, take it back to the garrage that fitted it and sue the ass out them.

I hadn't clicked that it had been fitted by someone else - Iain is dead right - take it back !

the strater is hitting the side of the flywheel, the starter defianitley works as ive have tested it. the pinion gear of the starter slides out like it supposed to and spins, so therefore it makes a whirrling noise. the problem is that teeth of the flywheel dont mesh with the pinion gear of the starter.

Oops. That dont sound too clever.

Well, I'm having a new clutch fitted soon so can you tell me which garage you took it too so I can avoid it.

No offence Aki.

That aint right.

I had my clutch changed a few weeks ago and you couldnt tell that it had been done besides it not slipping anymore.

You should get in touch with them and see what they say. Give them a chance to correct the problem and if not get intouch with the trading standards

Something has not been fitted right or an adapter is missing maybe?

Take it back and get it looked at mate.

Aki, I got my clutch changed for £100 + VAT = £117.

The mechanic owns a Z and know what he is doing.

They also washed my car after too :D

Stuart

Your car started before having the new clutch fitted and now afterwards it doesn't!

Take it back mate, that's sh1te workmanship from whoever has done the work!!!

Who did it? Was it a Nelson Mandella???

Name and shame mate, always hearing about how bad SE are so there is no reason why we shoundn't know who has done this!

i had the same problem but only after fitting a new gearbox. I have to have washers inbetween the stater and the casing. I recon that turbo and non are very slighty different size. Have you had the correct one fitted.
