Hi, I think I need some SOFT brake pads for the SVA. I say this because of the stupid way they test the brakes, ie engine off etc, and I need them to grab cold and well without the servo..

Any ideas...?

Green Stuff pads will do you. There are very soft, but don't last long.

You could take the wheels off and give your discs a de glaze by rubbing them with emery paper. It could give enough friction to get you through the test. Eventually it will polish back up again.

Same with the pads. take em out rough up the surface with emery paper and it'll help give extra temporary bite.

They are probably glazed with lack of use too.

As long as you dont have to drive too far to the test you wont polish them back up.

I thought of that, roughing up the pads, but its £30.00 each time it fails, so I might as well put that to some pads and be safe, ish.

Thanks.

I think stock pads are fairly soft, I've got a spare set, if you want them drop me a line.. (that is new & unused set I mean, not a manky old set :))..

Oh and, have you thought about doing a little write up on what you had to do to get your car through the SVA? Might be handy to those of us thinking of importing a car that requires an SVA test sometime soon (thats anything under 10 years now, isn't it?)..

Cheers,

Aaron

Thanks Aarron, how much for the pads inc post, I live in Aylesbury.

As for the write up on the SVA, yes I thought I might offer. It's really a matter of knowing how they think, (which is cockeyed) but of course you only know that by watching and asking questions.

How do I do this write up thing then? As in where do I send it?

Mark

Mark - how does £30 for the set of front pads sound?

[edited because I'm not sure I've got a fitting kit spare]

You're not that far from me - so I could drop them up if you like, or failing that - not sure how much they'll cost to post, I'll have to weigh them on Monday..

Or you could pop down on Sunday if that's convienient & pick them up (I'm in Slough, so only 30 miles or so).

Unfortunately, I haven't got any rears spare... Sorry Mark..

(I've got a spare set of fronts because some twonk ordered two lots of fronts.. Lol..)

Should have replied sooner but have been very busy, sorry. Anyway, I have bought a set of front and back, Mintex, the fronts were £24.00 and the place is local. Thanks again. For info oly the rears were only slightly more money.
