As a new Z driver, I thought I'd share a trivial but very annoying feature of my car.

The ignition key gets locked in the ignition every time and I have to release a little spring just above the black release button to remove it. Not cool at all. Anyone else had this problem, and know if the locking mechanism on the ignition key can be removed safely.

I was hoping to put a picture of my car here but don't know how - its a red SWB TT with a full Veilside R bodykit - gorgeous.

Mine is the same, but I guess I've developed the knack of pushing the button with my knuckle and turning the key at the same time (is this an import only feature ?)

Another minor annoyance is that since the auto gearbox was removed, fixed & replaced I usually have to jiggle the lever in order to remove the ignition key. I know this sensor is to ensure that the box is in park, but I never used to have to jiggle it. I guess the switch needs some adjustment. Bloody safety features!

A complete shot in the dark here (as I know nothing about the mechanics of cars) but it 'might' have something to do with the steering lock. I had a problem a couple of weeks back where I couldn't get the key out... but found that tugging on the steering wheel released it (I had moved the wheel at the same time as turning the key..an act which had locked it in position somehow - thus jamming both key and button).

Was a one-off for me...but it could be that your lock mechanism needs adjustment.

Everyone is most welcome to shoot that idea down in flames... as I'm sure they'll be many who are eager to) ;o)

...mine packed-up totally so that the key was stuck in the ignition and could not be removed at all. After much trying to fix, I fastned the mechanism open using an elastic band (simple to do). Now I can get the key out in any position of the auto gear stick.

...are you in Ipswich? Seen what sounds like your car near the station.

No, I'm in Oxford, which is an area which seems to have a pretty low Z count

As the others have said, it sounds like the switch on the auto box is not engaging properly (If it IS an auto). Next time it happens see if moving the stick sorts it.

Reminds me of the first time my girlfriend borrowed the Z and had to call me because she thought she had jammed the key in the ignition.

Turned out she had parked it in neutral and put the handbrake on! It confused me over the phone though.
