If my car had a full timing belt kit fitted in 2009 and has done only a few hundred miles before getting hydro locked, would the Pulleys and Tensioner be ok to use on the new engine or do these parts deteriorate over time??

Any advice guys??

Thanks..

Rich

They should be OK but spin the pulleys and listen to the bearings, should be smooth and quiet.

The adjustable tensioner should be OK but again check it adjusts OK and isn't seized.

If in doubt replace the lot I know they aren't cheap but cheaper than a destroyed engine.

That's what I was thinking, what else should I get done now that the engine is being replaced and out of the car?? My mechanic is very knowledgeable but hasn't done much in the way of Zeds, I've read on here about EGR removal but what else should I ask him to do??

personally i would replace belt and check all guide bearings, tensioner etc..belt may have got some damage:)

egr blanking kit availible from z center

Chances are they are all still good Richie. My belt was done in 2004 by Jeff and 11 years later with 15,000 miles on that belt I changed it. There was a noise from that area so I had all the pullys replaced along with the water pump thermostat and the three aux. belts. I still have the old belt, pullys and thermostat and they are in very good shape (the noise was coming from the alternator and A/C pump)

I'm going to change the belt on the replacement engine with a new OEM one, I was thinking that everything ( Tensioner, pulleys and waterpump) on my banjaxed engine should be ok to switch across as they were brand new OEM parts fitted in '09 and only had a few hundred miles put up on them, I'll order the EGR Blanking kit and Timing belt but what else should I buy? I see things like springs, seals and sprockets, as I don't know the engine what should I get eliminated or replaced??
