I've got a horse box which I have recently fixed the small starter motor on the on board generator. this afternoon I was pulling out the gen and to achieve this I had to remove the live and earth leads and pull them through a hole. Now I'm not stupid..well I suppose this post might disagree... so I used the isolator key to isolate the battery, so carried on, now I was not to know the power to the generator bypassed the isolator and went straight to the 2 x 19" long batteries. Yep.. as I pulled the wires the live and earth touch, not briefly, but forced together by the narrowing to the hole. Well sparks flew, wires got welded, and from the batteries on my left, crackled and banged with loads of smoke, got the leads separated and prised on battery terminal off (to be safe) .
So what happened in the battery area and what might have gone bang, have the batteries gone fubar! or would a terminal have disintegrated. I didn't have time to spend th 20 mins to gain decent access and I didn't have a torch as its dark under there. Any electricians out there care to make a guess...
Here's my next post
