why wasnt it much of a day ? bcoz of the weather :(

It wasnt much of a day because we wanted to go Halfway stage because its more open. We where going down in 2 cars because of some people still not making thier mind up whether to go. We where supposed to leave at 7am, but the other car didnt arrive till 7:45. While in Wales we learned by mobile phone that the driver of the other car needed a cash machine, so we pulled over in a Shell garage to get petrol.

50miles later we where then told that the other car needed petrol, so we had to stop again so they could get petrol. After the longest petrol stop in the world we set off but only to be told when we got to half way, that all the tickets where sold out about 10 mins ago.

So we not getting into the stage we wanted we tried another one. We got in and had an hour to look for a place to watch. We saw a few decent places in viewing areas which didnt let you see anything, but the driver of the other car said we can find better places if we keep going. So we did and with 5 mins before the cars started to come we where in the middle of the woods and could see about 3 metres of track 40 yards away. So we went back to where we saw some good places, but now there where about a 50 people standing there and we couldnt see anything. The place where we did stop we saw the cars going round a corner and saw them for about 2 seconds at the most. Not what I expected for £20 plus £40 in petrol to get there.

Apparently according to my friend who went a few years ago, you could walk anywhere and when a marshal which where dotted round ever 100 yards or so blew the whistle, you got out of the way. But now there where 7 viewing areas which where poor visability to start and where packed where you had to stand to watch. Considering the stage was about 7 miles long, there where only 7 viewing areas and all very close together, there where about 5 miles of the race that no one was able to see.

Also the helpers/marshals where not very well informed. When we asked where the viewing areas where, he could not tell us where the others where. He didnt even know how many there where.

The weather was nice. It was sunny but a little cold, but the walking warmed you up.

Stuart.

From what I have seen they have made a total mess of the event for spectators.

As you said, up until about 2 years ago all you had to pay was a couple of squids for parking and you could go wherever you wanted in the forests.

Now they have started making massive charges and trying to justify it with so called improved services, safety and viewing areas they have totally ruined it.

It used to be fun walking the roads and seeing the action close up - pushing stranded drivers out of ditches etc.

It was always hard enough getting to the stages before but to get there and find there are no tickets is ridiculous.

Also the rally used to cover a nuch larger area - North Yorkshire, Cumbria, Wales etc making it easy for people to view at least some of it.

Now it's all in south Wales it's not so easy.

Aye. It cost £20 to get in, and when we asked if there where any tickets the steward said there are no tickets as such but you pay £20 each to get in. He could have easliy pocketed it.
