Or anyone else with experience of Car Alarms.... :D

My alarm - **SUPER BANZAI IMPENETRA III** - used to be very happy and contented and would both arm the alarm and lock the doors when I pressed its button, giving a cheery couple of beeps while it was it.

Now however, all it does is set the alarm. Its suddenly decided it doesn't want to lock the doors any more and i'm having to use THE DOOR LOCKS (urrgghhh!!) :(

**Fortunately the Rottweiler that lives in my car is still in full operating order and my anti-jacking remote flaming `crisp n dry` additional security measures are in tip top form**

Is there anyone out there who knows what could be troubling it, and how to resolve it.

I think it went a little mad after I pressed the button at the wrong time (within the 30second immobiliser timeframe) and it beeped and flashed like something off the Enterprise.

Should I disconnect the battery? Will that just make things worse? I've tried suprising it by pressing my button at random times but it won't be fooled again.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated. This is severely ruining my cool because not only do I now have to stand around my car looking dodgy waiting for the turbo timer to shutdown, i have to fiddle with the dodgy locks too!

**NB - the locks still work when I use the key so don't try it Car Thiefs... even if you knew my car was kept in an underground bunker on the Isle of Muck**

I can't do that casual carefree bleep bleep when I walk towards / away from the car either - I've found myself checking door handles and generally looking far less suave than I should be with such a beautiful car!

cheers,

Chris

If the alarm is working ok then probably the door motor in the drivers door has either packed up or the fuse for the central locking for the alarm has popped.

Replacement door motor will be about £12-£15, give me a call if you need one.

I had a problem just like this after having the disconnect and reconnect the battery (that my have been a coincidence).

What I did follows, this may not be relevant, but it's worth a go, as its pretty simple.

I looked in the instruction manual and found instructions to re-set what the automatic arming does.

Somewhere in the car there is a swith to put it into manual mode, switch on andit will not self alarm (it has a silly name something like valet switch - very American).

You have to swith on the ignition and flick the "valet swith" on and off several times. i think it was five times.

If you find the instructions, it is worth a go.

If you don't have the instructions reply to this and I shall drag myself out into the frost and get them, and copy them in for you (what a hero!?!)

Good luck!

Hmmm, I was charged £60 for a motor for one when I had my alarm installed.

Im not gonna read any more of Bobs posts, cos when I do I just discover more about how ripped off I was.

Cheers guys!

I will give the "valet" switch a flick (if I can find one) a few times and see what it does. You never know, it might clean my car while it's at it!!

Have got the instructions somewhere - will dig them out and try what you suggested Birdie.

Bob - I'll check to see if it's locking the passenger side when it arms - that'll give me an idea if it's the drivers side door lock! If it is, i'll be in touch very shortly - 12-15 quid seems eminently easier to swallow than 60 quid!!!

Hi Cerb,

If there is a thief in the house, he now knows what alarm you've got, and that it isn't working properley!

My be advisable to edit your post now, or post any security concerns in the members areas!

Chris,

Had a similar problem with my bells, At the April meet 2001 met Bob for the 1st time, he pressed & prodded bits for a minuete & said:- take it back to the installer & configure to this etc.

Did that & it hasn't missed a beat since :)

He knows his stuff.

I think you'll find that if the drivers door motor isn't working then none of the locks will operate. The alarm operates the drivers door and that then triggers the rest.

Bob will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong.

Spot on Dave, the 300 has what we call Single Point Locking. This means that the central locking will only work with a key from a single point, the drivers door.

In the drivers door there is a switch, which when you turn the key sends a signal to the other doors telling them to lock.

This causes problems when fitting an alarm as the switch can not physically lock the door, so we fit a motor in the drivers door which is driven by the alarm and connected to the rod that locks the door.

The result is that when you arm your alarm you activate the new motor in the door which moves the locking rod which in turn kids the switch into thinking it`s been done with a key so sends a signal to the other doors to lock. Unlocking is simply the reverse.

So there you have it, multipoint systems are much easier!!

Cheers Mark, i've edited my original message to let any opportunistic car thiefs in on what they'll find if they try anything at all. (although the door locks and alarm are both fine - just working independently of each other)

Not to mention the battering i'll deliver to them if they are daft enough to get entangled in my `Spiders Web TM` Scally Detainer until I find them....

As for the problem - why is nothing ever simple on a Zed??

God know's what i'll have to do if I ever have a problem with something as complex as the boot release!! :D

I guess thats why they are rare cars. People who stopped buying them and moved to ford, becuse they wanted a simple peaceful life. :D
