Hi All,

 

Well, i got the idle issue sorted. one side of the engine had no screw adjuster ting in so the engine was opening one bank before the other. Also, somone had adjusted the throttle cable to keep the revs higher so the end was slightly off the rest ledge.

 

Having sorted this, the engine is now hunting for revs when the throttle is at a steady position? ie: throttle held at 2000rpm car hunts between 1500rpm and 2000rpm.

 

Any ideas?

 

It used to do this slightly (very slightly) but not as noticable as it is now that i've had the idle revs sorted.

 

I get the feeling that whoever had the car before me has messed around with the car somewhat trying to soprt problems (or to adjust settings so that problems weren't as evident instead of fixing the issues)

could have a vac leak/boost leak.

Forgot to mention it's an N/A Auto.

so a vac leak then, its worth having a look. I had a z3 years ago n/a there was a vac leak just after the throttle body the car we doing just what you are talking about. also faulty maf just unplug it and see if there is any change

As mentioned in an earlier thread, I'm Mechanically Retarded so apologies for the following questions that may seem stupid to someone with more knowledge.

 

Where would a likely place for a vaccum leak be on a Zed?

 

Where is the MAF located? What does it look like?

 

Also, does thew Zed have an Idle Air Control Valve out of intereast?

when you messed with the throttle did you re adjust the tps to account for the new throttle position?

Not yet. That's a job for hopefully Monday or Tuesday night but it was kinda doing this before, the symptoms just seem to have worsened.

unplug the maff and just see what happends seem a lots of people on here have been having maf issues. its like 25 years old maf does not last for ever I went throw 3 maf on my last car. the maff is under the front nose panel open the bonnet and in the front of the car just about the bumper inbetween the head lighs there is a panel held on by 3 bolts just under them and the panel will lift up then pull out. you will now see the maff with just unplug the it and see if there is any change its will take you like 5 mins to do it that. has to be worth a try being its so simple to do

Right unplugged the MAF and the car hunted for revs at the offset then died so I'm guessing it's not that. Checked for vacuum leaks where I could and couldn't really see or hear anything that stood out.
