I'm still trying to sort this ground loop - radio/CD has a backgroung noise related to engine speed.

I got a few responses a couple of weeks ago, mainly to do with adding an extra earth. Having done this - and checking the existing earth, I'm afraid that the noise is still there. Anyone got any other ideas? There's no black box behind the radio/CD, and the noise has only recently happened. Could it be wiring to the aerial? - noise is always there wether I'm listeming to the radio or CDs...

Any thoughts welcomed - might have to ditch the whole thing cos being an na owner, I'm with Nelson re mass.

thanks

Jack

i had a seriously loud alternator whine coming out of my speakers on a sierra i had (only when using amps) i tried everything, using a blackbox pre stereo noise filter, rca ground loop isolaters before the amps(these worked a little) a noise filter on the alternator i even changed the bloody alternator but nothing really worked. turned out that the kenwood stereos id been using were the problem as i put in another kenwood and all was fine for a few days then something must have shorted(bad earth?) cos it happened again im talking 80decibels of alternator whine!! anyway put a sony in and tried a pioneer as well and although there was a tiny bit of noise, it was shed loads better. putting an extra earth to the actual stereo casing worked a bit as well but i would try another stereo and see if that works, altough i do think that it was someting on the car that caused the problem in the first place
