A very unusual event is taking place this year with the Canadian Lancaster flying to the UK and

displaying with our own BBMF Lancaster at a number of air displays in August. These are the only

two remaining airworthy Lancasters in the world.

 

For those of you who are into watching (and hearing) WW2 piston engine aircraft this is something

not to be missed. The sight and sound of eight merlin engines in two Lancasters roaring overhead in

the UK skies may never happen again.

What an awesome sight.

So whats it like sitting in the rear gunner turret of a Lancaster bomber? Well something like this..

Love the way the spitfires pulled up and away as well.... beautiful sound

Absolutely fantastic!!! Found out yesterday that the Lancasters are using Biggin Hill as a base for their southern display tour.

Saw one of them going into land today when I was out driving. Biggin is about 6 miles from me, so I will go over tomorrow and

see if I can get a look as they go off for their Saturday displays. Better still on Sunday they will be doing a flypast over Kenley

airfield at about 12:40pm on their way to Eastbourne. Kenley airfield is about 1/4 mile from me. RAF Kenley was a front line BoB

fighter station and is still remarkably intact. Can't wait!

 

This is Kenley airfield taken as we flew up to the RAF Museum at Cosford from Bigging Hill in 2011.

 

They will be at sywell in Wellingborough on Sunday, hoping to get a good view as they fly over and a few photos for the album.
