HELP Dashboard illumination goes off

Hi,

 

While I was driving yesterday night, my mate had the passenger's light on for quite a while ( 20' at least ). Then, all of a sudden, the dashboard illumination gone, and the air-con illumination itensity reduced.

 

Switching off the passenger's light had immediate effect, the dashboard illumination was back and the air-con illumination the same as usuall.

 

Any suggestions what can go wrong and how to fix it ?

    Sounds like abattery or alternator problem to me, but thats just a stabb in the dark.
