Looking through previous posts I noticed that some people have Z's that start to smoke after idling for a while, they described this problem as probably the rear turbo seals going.

My Z has recently started doing this, but only after an oil change from whatever to Magnatec, and an HKS filter fitted. The only time it did this previously was when I tried to adjust the idle up a bit as it was indicated low. (turned out to be and incorrect reading.)

I turned the idle screw and it started to belch out loads, and I mean LOADS of white smoke...swiftly set back to normal! wink.gif

Perhaps the better oil has exasperated the problem.

But it doesn't seem to do it if the car is run regularly, but at the moment it is only used at the weekends during which it's fine. (still quicker than the average bear)

Has anyone had similar symptoms and what did you guys do to resolve it?

Cheers,

Ben.

Ben, last week i came over to the mainland to have my HKS Super AFR set up, the car went to 3 Nissan performance tuners and because the car smoked so bad off boost they believed turbo's were knackered, a full compression test was done as was a leak down test, these proved okay, so i phoned that top man Jonny at GPS he sorted me out in a few days with a breather kit designed for the 300zx, cost just over a ton, fitted it this morning, cutting a few fingers in the process, took 2 hours in total and iam no mechanic. I've done about 35 miles and the improvement is fantastic !! only a little faint bit of smoke to begin with and now so far none at all. One thing 2 of the garages told was that the Mobil 1 in the engine is so thin it pisses through the engine and will find it's way through to the slightest gap it can, so i'll be going back to my Castrol RS this week too, the instructions tell you how the kit works so will happily post it on here for you, you've got to give it a try for what it costs.
