Last weekend I cleaned my throttle bodies - they were filthy. Did the disconnect the power bit to reset the ECU, which helpfully reset all the radio stations too. Anyway, before I started the idle speed had always been a bit erratic and rather high, typically 900-1100 ish. Afterwards it was sitting happily at about 1300, so I finally decided to do something about it. Engine running, autobox in neutral, a/c off, disconnected the AAC sensor, turned the idle screw clockwise A LONG WAY, felt like almost as far as it would go and it's now recessed some distance into the casting (I would have expected mabye only .5 to .75 of a turn but that's just based on experience with other cars) and finally managed to get the idle speed down to about 800rpm. Reconnected AAC sensor, did all the tests with a/c, gearbox in park, blip throttle etc and it all seems happy.

Anyroadup, the question - Is this normal ? Should the idle screw normally need so much adjustment to knock off about 500rpm ?

Should I be checking the TPS as well ?

HMMM thats a good question, i want to do mine this weekend, so ill tell you the result..

Definitely set the TPS as well.

Be sure it's between 0.4 and 0.45V

My TPS was 0.22v !!!

I've now set it to 0.46v and it's at 4.34v when the throttle is fully open. Be interesting to see how much difference this makes.

Andy, the idle WILL be artificially high after an ecu reset! This is while the ecu re-learns all the airflow settings. It will settle down after a bit to the proper level. Ask Harve!!! He did this a few weeks ago and his has finally settled down now smile.gif

Sounds like that idle setting may need changing back frown.gif I could be wrong but from my own experience.........

Just discovered I may have adjusted the TPS wrongly. I followed Maciej's instructions on his web site. He says that the ignition needs to be on, in the workshop manual it says the engine must be running and up to temp. I'll have to check it again tomorrow ...
