As part of my ongoing knowledge learning and general tidy-up/inspection of my car, I'll be removing the door cards shortly.

From what I understand and have read, cars built post 1994 came with remote central locking as standard.

I didn't get any remotes with my car, so I am wondering what I should be looking for when I remove the door card to indicate if it's fitted or not.

Behind the door cards, a Servo actuator, thats connected via rods to the existing locking rod system. It will look something like this :

(but probably with 2-wires, rather than 5)

This will be present wether its got the standard nissan system, or an aftermarket system.

The current system can be very easily replaced by a universal remote central locking kit or a Full Car alarm. Very simple to fit, its just a 2-way servo that pushes or pulls on the connecting rod to lock/unlock the drivers door. The passenger side is activated via the drivers door system.

You should find this in the passenger side footwell (it's the control box) and the remote is sitting on top of it.

By a bit of googling you can find replacement keyfobs from US http://www.keylessride.com/order/chooseremote.asp?make=Nissan&remoteyear=1994&model=300ZX but since the remote uses a radio freq not legal in UK, I didn't bother. Just took it out and had a proper UK one put in. This was from a JDM Series 3 built Dec 1993 and as far as I can remember when I looked at the time, the remote access was the same in US and Japan. Later cars didn't always have this - my Series 6 doesn't.
