I am 23 and have been saving for a Jap super car for 3 yrs. I had settled for a Supra as a 300zx seemed out of my league. It is looking like I might be able too aford a Z so I would like some guidance before I make the leap.

Could I expect to get a reasonable car for £5K ?

Would a budget of 1K a year be enough to keep your average stock model running nicely (servicing, maintance and repairs)?

Are there many Z friendly mechanics around Swindon?

Would you seasoned hands still talk to me if I held off on the mods while I got used to the car?

Thanks, Phil.

Try www.autotrader.co.uk and do a used car search for Nissan 300's (leave off the ZX, it'll get more matches).

Trade prices seem to range from about 5k to 15k as you'd expect, based on the ads that list age, milage, etc.

Have you looked at insurance yet? Depending on your particulars, you might be looking at around 1k a year just for that...

Hi Phil,

I'm from Swindon also. I don't know of any capable Z mech's in Swindon. I use a company near Abindon. Not too far. There are plenty of imported Z's around now.

Thank's Guys,

I have been to autotrader and yep the prices do look good. My only concern is the quality of car you get for under £5K.

I expect to pay about £800 for insurance (3yrs no claims and no points) so I was thinking about keeping a grand in reserve for things like cam belts tyres and other sundries. Am I living in a fantasy land?

Phil.

Dont forget...

Fuel... 17-25mpg...!

Tyres... Very Cheap makes £350 a set. Good make (Bridgestone) £550.

Servicing is expensive at Nissan, try to avoid Nissan!

Jez:

Jez,

Fuel was my 'thirst' thought, I get about 40mpg in my peugeot.

I have been cycling the 12 miles to work a couple of times a week for the past two months to show my dedication.
