Bit of a weird one today, my 4s decided on its own (and I mean on its own) that it wanted to remove all of my contacts. I looked at it this morning and all was well, left the phone in the van came back a couple of hours later and no contacts in the phone!

I dont have icloud, (although on the advice of other sites and in vain I have signed up to it and tried turning contact sync on and of but no better)

I only have one hotmail account on the phone, that is set to NOT sync contacts and its been like that for a year or more.

I'm away from home at the moment and don't have any acess to a backup from the computer although its going to be out of date anyway but its better than nothing.

Does anyone have any idea why they have gone, and if there is a way I can get them back tonight?

Yes mate. Iphones are shit. Done exactly the same to me before and my emails kept vanishing. Don't think there is anything you can do tonight without a pc.... when you get home check itunes to see if they are backed up in there.... it may have put them all in your Windows contacts.

its quit common with I loose your contacts phones ... there is no remedy for it just back your stuff up next time

you may get luck if your content is with itunes but dont bank on it

Oh no its backed up from just before Xmas I think, which isnt the end of the world just drives you mad that it can do that without even the option to "undo".

Ah well!

Its not just a iphone fault.

Try a reset, hold the home button (round button on front) and the power off button with the phone on, until the screen flicks black, then leave both buttons and just press the power on button, see if that gets them back.

Failing that you are going to have to wait until you are back at your computer.

When was the last time you plugged your iphone into itunes on your PC, that will determine the last time it backed up your data, as it does this every time you plug it into itunes if you have left it set on automatic.

As for iphones are shite, samsung had the exact same issue so this isnt just iphone specific.

Cheers vods, tried it and no joy... I'll go for the restore backup when I'm home tomorrow!

Still got all the texts so I can keep numbers that might be of some "importance"... :)

Had the same thing happen me for the first time in over 2 years of ownership of an iPhone.

Think i have them backed up somewhere , still a pain the hole though.
