Symptom: The key turns in the lock but nothing happens

Cause: Broken plastic bit that connects lock barrel to push arm, see photo below

Action: Asked local Nissan dealer and was quoted £50 for a complete new lock!

Request: Does anyone have such a bit please? I am happy to do the dismantelling if it is in situ, and I would be happy to supply some Beer or such like for your trouble.

I had the same problem a few years ago.

 

Had to get a new lock, take the plastic bit off and put it on my current lock.

 

Someone may have a set of second hand locks for cheaper money, but you can't be sure how long a used part like that can last.

I've got one from when some twat tried to nick my car. They ruined the lock and door handle so I had them replaced.

Only problem is I've no idea where it is in my collection of bits.

If I find it I'll let you know.

well f*ck me the same thing happened to my car earlier this week!. could not get into the car via driver side so now have to get in the passenger side and 'slide' across into drivers seat. when your 6'5" its not that easy!.

 

The same bit of plastic has broken on mine, I'm off to main dealer today to get a price of the bits (gulp). Also being a lazy b*stard I'll have to get them to fit it as I dont really have the correct tools etc. to do the job myself.

 

Seeing as my fan belt is squealing like a pig when its cold I can get them to do that at the same time.

I fixed my lock. Thanks to a tip from JeffTT I took the passenger door to bits - extracted the bit I needed and fitted it onto the Drivers door.

 

The only difference is it unlocks in the opposite direction.

Reminds me to take mine apart sometime - mine goes round and round forever - though it does unlock & lock the door.. Most bizarre..

That could be easy to fix, I noticed a clever spring around the barrel of the lock. If the end stop was bent forward then it would allow full rotation of the key. Mine was not engaging perfectly so I gave it a quick tweek with a small pair of pliers and the action was immediately smoother and more positive.

same thing happened to my supra and i went to scrappers and one accidently fell in to my pocket
