fan will never stop after ignition is off!

The car is running fine BUT one of the two fans (the small one from the air filters side) will not stop after ignition is switched off. I know that, when hot, some fans do run after ign off for some while but mine didn’t stop after 5 mins so I had to disconnect my battery not to go flat. The next morning the fan came back on when I connected the mains again? Is this a faulty sensor and if yes where is it so I can find it and kill it. What is that fans job since the radiators fan is the big one from the engines side?

lol never heard of that one before, afaik the fan goes off when the ignition is off, wouldnt know though its never cut in on ours, its a problem with the coolant sensos if the fan comes on all the time i think. But it sounds like something unrelated, maybe the relay is broke?

It must be relay. Probably located in the relay housing near the battery. Others should be able to confirm this but I believe the electric fan should stop as soon as the engine is turned off, so if its on with the engine off then the relay must be stuck closed.

Yeah, good suggestion - try pulling the relay, from memory there is one labelled 'fan'.

"try pulling the relay, from memory there is one labelled 'fan'."

Thanks for that but what is that "memory " thing and where is it located? ,pulling it out whould affect the operation of the fan when needed?

Hmmm, not sure we're using the same version of English here. Let's try a picture instead :-

If you remove the relay indicated by the label "Rad Fan" the the fan should stop, whether the ignition is on or not. Therefore, if the ignition is off, the fan is running, you pull out the relay and the fan stops then you probably have a faulty relay.

OK ! that looks clear now to me. THANKS

I need to ask another thing now, is ok for the specific relay to have power even after the ign is off, I now its ok on some cars but is it ok on a Z? Did any of U heard that fan keep running after ign off?

The fan only runs under certain conditions. I know someone detailed them on here recently, but basically the fan should not come on unless its hot out and you are in traffic. I think it is likely that the relay would always have power and the ECU uses the relay to switch the fan on and off. If the relay died in the on position then the fan would stay on all the time.

If removing the relay stops the fan then I would suggest you get a replacement one.
