wondering.....

I've just read on an old thread on TT.net that the only real difference between the auto engine and the manual's are the intake cams....

hmmm...manual ECU....intake cams...instant 20hp???

Any thoughts?

but of course it would only be useful for those doing the conversion! wink.gif

I believe the a/r ratio of the turbos is also different between the two.

GZ.

The auto engine has gobs more midrange torque, you don't wanna loose that for the sake of 20bhp at the top end. It's a real gas when you put an manual box in an auto car - trust me. wink.gif

more midrange torque......oooo....i'll be taking mine out tonight after putting a manual box on it! smile.gif

Must...resist...urge to...stamp throttle......new....clutch.....

I swapped a blown auto engine for a manual a few months ago and mated it with the original auto box. Not sure that I am that pleased with the swap.

John, I think thats the answer to your question about start times wink.gif The auto turbos are different and so are the cams. They are designed to give more low down grunt to match the characteristics of the auto box...

I was reading about these differences between the the auto and manual. It turns out that the auto will actually outpul the MT getting up to 100 mph. It may also beat it in the quarter mile... not sure about that, though.

Still, this is impressive, since most acceleration occurs in the midrange.

Damn AD you may just be right. This was the first time I have run it since the new engine went in. Different characteristics, ah well, got to learn a new take off technique then.
