Where the torsion bar bolts to has cracked all the way around and the black part you see with the two holes in it has been completely cut out by the crack! The other side was on its way also so replaced with a good set painted of cause :)

Stripped the whole suspsion down both sides to check for any other damage.

Lucky the arm didnt pull out, no wonder there was a knock!. Quite a few of us had exactly the same issue a few years back. It was put down to the uprated tension rod bushes having too little give in them. Its worth checking whats on your mates car or it may happen again.

That makes sense he did have the uprated ones fitted but i have replaced them with std tension rod fitted with polybushes

It was standard arms fitted with polybushes that caused the problems. The original polybushes bushes seemed to be the problem. I think the manufacturers of the bushes designed modified ones which provided a little more compliance which solved the problem. A lot of us went down the rose jointsed rod route.

the old tension rods were the rose joint type but looked to be a cheap copy. We will see how he gets on with the poly bushes :)

common thing, did it on my old Z and that had standard suspension.

maybe the arms could do with a bit of reinforcing in that area.

Yeah poor design but obviously not expected, could end in tears if it let go at speed!
