Hi, I am in the process of changing transmission fluid for my imported auto 1991 zx twin turbo. The transmission pan has no drain plug!? Do I have to just take the pan off? If so what do I reseal it with?

Many thanks

A new gasket is a good idea, find a local autobox specialist should be around £5 from them or £ from Nissan!!

Don1t be under that pan when you take it iff as it will absolutely cover you in fluid, take off the lower outlet pipe to the cooler on the drivers side and it will allow some control albeit its a little high up the box to empty it all.

Remove all but a couple of the 10mm bolts holding the sump and then break the seal with a tap and have a large tray in place and plenty of paper, even when it seems all drained the sump holds an extra litre or so watch for that, the strainer will then be visable to undo and take away to clean out.

Remove the cooler pipes and drain those, if an air line is avaiable that can make it easier to blow out the old fluid.

Refitted it will take no time to fill the box up provisionally with 4 litres of fluid down the dipstick tube, run the engine and run through all of the drive gears with your foot on the brake, then back into park, check for leaks and then check the level, add as required.
