Well.

Just wondering if anyone had ever put p a spec list of ideal parts for certain engine builds.....?

You know, like a reliable 400bhp engine build etc....?

Just curious :)

if you want relible 400 bhp at the wheels ..best going forged internals, bigger injectors, upgrade the cooling and intercooling, race bearings and bolts, but most importantly the brakes, dont forget the clutch will need upgrading also ...

Yeah ta, i was just wondering if anyone had ever done a list i.e. parts by x can be obtained from y......

Im gonna do an engine for mine next year so if no one has done one then i shall do one when i have done mine :)

Do you want 400 at the wheels or flywheel? Different things .

Basically its what steve said although you have the option of not going forged internals but its better if you do so especially with the pistons,as the stock rods are already forged and capable of 500bhp or there abouts. You should also add lightweight pulleys as the weight compared to stock are unbelievable and you will lighten up the revs/engine .

Also if you want to see a massive difference you need a boost controller and to go with it a chip from zedworld is a very nice upgrade towards the 400bhp you want

As to where you get the parts id strongly suggest conceptz in the u.s , that's where i got mine and very pleased with the prices/services and very quick delivery.

For the horsepower you want you will get it quite easily with the mentioned parts in your thread, if you're rebuilding the engine completely i suggest full oem gaskets , water and oil pump , oem belts etc and id also suggest a cometic headgasket for the price they are they're well worth it even if you're not going for a huge amount of horsepower.

Yes mate that helps ta :)

Basically, I currently have an na. And believe if I'm going to tt it then may as well get an engine and build it, out of the car, with all mods and deletes etc done prior to fitting.

We have our own workshop at the college I teach at so it can sit in our test cell whilst I'm building it, then test it on our dyno prior to fitting.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever done a 'guide to a 400bhp engine'

By being on our dyno I'd be looking at power at the fly.....

If this guide does not exist then I plan to do one along side my build, including test data, video of build and testing and any extra tuning I try on the engine, as I understand from what I have read these engines already have inlet tract tuning to optimise for low end torque....

So I hope to keep the torque optimised to keep drive ability, whilst attaining a power somewhere near 400bhp.

I'm well aware bhp is just pub bragging talk but I'm not looking for huge power. I'm just looking to make a reliable, hopefully very drivable road 300Zx that can hold its own on the quarter miles if I ever finally take it to one :D

On another side note, I teach on software called gt suite, if anyone has heard of this it is industry software that uses in depth algorithms to simulate a genuine engine, so when I have an engine in pieces, I will be able to dimension it, spec it, and get approximate values for performance prior to doing anything to the engine at all....

The more fact I can put in with regards to dimension of the engine, the more accurate the results will be. The software also works with inventor so actual 3d design can be integrated to improve accuracy.

As I say, I'm hoping to start this project next summer on the holidays so currently just starting to put the feelers out for some general info :)

I'll give more details closer to the time of course as it will be interesting (to me at least) as to how accurate my simulation can get.....one of my students this year got his ford puma engine to a 1bhp accuracy on his build of a standard engine..... We were quite impressed!

Anyway, that's why I asked the question.... I'm hoping that my discoveries can be used as part of my masters that I'm starting this year. :)

Should be yeah :)

Just getting all cars sorted body wise this year, the 350 has just been fully undersealed, the e30 will be going in soon, then the 300 is off to zedworld in two weeks to get the tin worm removed, and then undersealed. :)

Everybody has different opinons on what internals to use along with what tubs to use and so on and so on so its not that simple. Either way though 400 isnt too hard to build.

Wiesco pistons

Uprated cosmetic HGs

555 injectors

uprated ICs/FMIC

Uprated tubs maybe JWT

chipped ECU (id get the right person to do it)

Apexi filter

Full Exhaust

BC

So thats about it off the top of my head. Of course other will recommend other parts and uprated rods and such but for 400 is not required. Main thing holding the engine back is the injectors as its limiting your boost to a safe 15psi

Sounds very interesting :thumbup1:

+1 on that, keep the updates and ideas coming and lots of detail when you start work on it, really looking forward to hearing more about this:thumpup1:

Cheers guys and will do :)

I'd have started sooner but the girl friend wanted a holiday over summer.... I don't think she quite understands my zed addiction... :D
