Hey Guys,

What do you lot reckon about the mr2 turbo? I heard with basics mods they can reach 0-60 in 5's or so. Are they any good? Reliable and most of all are they really that fast?

There's some bargains about, I had one last year, decatted and running 1 bar it felt like 5 secs 0-60 yes, but mid range power from 3rd gear onwards feels flatter than say a good Z. Fantastic handling, awesome braking, great fun! kept it for 9 months and it never missed a beat during that time.

i went form a z to a supra to an mr2 turbo, was a rev2 and i had it for 5yrs, all it needed was a clutch in all that time, great little car, like a go-kart with a roof.

was reasonably modded with a blitz ecu, greddy intercooler, cold plugs, hks induction, 12psi boost (9 is stock), felt really fast, i would bottle out at 130mph as the front end gets light..!

I had an mr2 turbo. Had it chipped. Loved it to bits. Very reliable, quick, great handling. Would have another tomorrow if I found one in the right condition.

i have had a zed before but i am getting the feeling for less money i could go faster xD

Pretty sure I've still got a unichip off my mr2 turbo lurkin in a drawer somewhere. Put another 50bhp on it. I had it debadged n sprayed yellow so it looked like that standard l reg special edition, with bling wheels. Wolf in girlie cars clothing!

You know that the Z is about 5 secs 0-60 ? , and for about £100 for a ECU chip and boost increase they are around 4.5 secs 0-60 with much longer legs than the mr2.

The Mr2 turbo is a great little car though. The Earlier models were famed for being a bit wild on the limit, but handling was improved in later models. Most people are'nt aware of the Turbo version and may just mistake you for a typical mr2 driving hairdresser :tongue_smilie: Same engine as used in the Celica GT-Four which is another to consider, Not as lightweight as the Mr2 but 4wd Traction.

So for 100 pounds with an ecu the zed can become 4.5? is that quite accurate? standard is 5.6 seconds on a tt right?

Before I modded my zed I was getting around 5.9 0-60 timed with a G-Tech pro - clutch was starting to slip at max torque so probably why it was a bit slower than stock quoted times.

After fitting some bolt on mods (chip, boost increase, exhaust, intake, lightweight flywheel, uprated clutch) I had a best time of 4.7 - launching it right is the hardest part in a zed LOL! most times were around the 5 second mark

Car and Driver magazine recorded 0-60 in 5.0 secs dead in a Standard TT SWB Manual. Although most other recorded times, especially with the LWB are around 5.5-5.7.

I did the same as Paul, recoded my 0-60 using Nissan Datascan before and after boost increase. I went from 5.7 secs stock, to 4.6 seconds with a LWB TT Manual. The 0-100 dropped by nearly 3 seconds.

If you have/get a SWB/Slicktop then its potentially even quicker still.

The Auto is a little slower, around half a second standard, but Im sure we have some Auto TT owners here under 5 seconds with minimal mods.
