Just curious as to what you guys think of the soarer tt compared to 300zx. Spec wise its supposed to be faster apparently.! Which one would win a drag race i wonder?

My boss used to have the 2.5tt and I took him for a spin in my tt and he shit his pants. He now has the more mellow 4l v8 soarer. They weight a lot, not looked up figures but you just have to look at the thickness of the doors, size of the boot etc to see its a big old lump, I may be wrong but I think they're all autos too.

Well supposedly there are faster than a 300zx 0-60. Also a lot more comfortable too. I have owned a zx but never a soarer.

The Soarer is proper ugly.

Power wise, i guess either one can be made much more powerfull without much trouble.

 

Interior is far more dated than a zed.

 

Id take a 300zx over a soarer...

 

Plus, if you did want a manual, the gearbox's are very expensive.

Well like I said, he shit his pants and now has a hankering for a 300zx. The zed, from what I've read (can't confirm these figures myself) is slightly ahead on bhp per ton v the soarer and more torque.

 

Soarer

BHP 276 @6200rpm

Torque lbft 268 @4800rpm

BHP per ton 173

 

300zx tt

BHP 280 @6400rpm

Torque lbft 274 @3600rpm

BHP per ton 177

 

.....and I've never liked the look of them either.

At 20 years old, neither will be as the book says.

It depends how either has been looked after.

Mate of mine fitted a supra 2jz engine and a sigle turbo conversion. which is quite common i hear. Its about 450 bhp now

mate of mine has a 2.5tt (1JZ), yes very quick, he has a single T4 conversion (with big induction so now even faster), the 2.5tt is junk, turbos back to back into a y pipe for the exhaust, heavily restricted and the rear turbo in prone to failure (and quite common to so so). The 1JZ however is a great engine... seen a few conversions on the 240 & 260z.

 

nice interior and with a body kit can look good, but compared to the 300zx.... way second class!!!!

 

I'd buy one if I wanted a family car....

Guess the only way i can tell is by sitting in one, well i was on the forums and the guys claimed they have beat 300zx quite easily. i know for a fact the 300zx is not comfortable, but not sure how much a soarer is.

 

yes soarer do seem to look a bit more ugly, apparently there engines and lot are a lot more reliable?

Hmm thanks for the infor, if i remember you used to own a scubby. Would the 300 beat it? I have mate who claim his type r new shape can beat the 300zx and scubbs

There was an interloper from another forum who used to come on here all the time quite a few years ago and maintain his Soarer was the best thing since sliced bread, what was his name ? Was it Mycroft ?

Not got a scooby lol ..... my mate has one and we have raced a few times and to be honest off the line a scooby will win as it can put the power down on the 4wd system top end the zed will kill it once the tubs kick in, but again im going on stock figures!

it's an old car just like the 300, be prepared to spend money on it.

off the line till about what speed? I am looking for something that will give me that rush, but scub lacks the road presence and class of a 300zx

The soarer is sort of a Japanese Jag. More of a Big Cruiser than a Sports car like the Z.

yeah, agreed that's why they became Lexus....

 

The JZ1 (tt) is a good engine (once you sort out the crap turbo system and rubbish exhaust, intercooler & induction).

 

my mate has all that and a T4 conversion and the car goes like stink....( he could do with better suspension, it's a bit too luxury and sloppy).

 

however the money he's spend would get him a 300zx ready to go.
