does anybody know a site that will show you where you can find the location of gas pipes (mains) in regard to your property . im looking to get a new service to my property from the main . if i can find where the pipe is im gonna dig the trench myself.

Andy just a word of warning, depending on the location of the main supply, trench should be minimum 780mm deep and 400mm wide x how far you need.

add to that you need to be aware of other services, we use a radar detector, picks up electric, water cable, old pipes and any metal. can be a nightmare job, but also a piece of pee.

get a price from transco as they will use a worm bore, if they mess it up, they fix it. plus only they can install a new meter.

we had a big install recently, with a total of 12 new meters, but running of 2 x new mains, even after all the prep, the guys hit the water once, then the cable tv twice.

plus if digging by hand its dam hard work. if you can use a mini digger and its a straight run to the house, then go for it
