sounds simple enough, but as its the ECU loom im going to be faffing with, would rather know how to go about doing it, getting annoyed with feeling something isn't quite right with the timing, car seems lumpy ish so may as well do this correctly so i can then set the timing correctly as well to rule that out.

Trace the wire at pin44 and strip back the sheathing to reveal enough wire to tap into, either cut and re join with the extra wire for the neutral switch with crimps or you can use a scotchblock.

you mean i have to get a wire going from the neutral switch on the gear box to that? aah ffs, well wont be getting under the car anytime this weekend then.

No, the thats only if you are connecting the neutral switch wire, you will need another bit of wire to ground the pin 44 connection to the nearest best grounding point

ok way to confuse me, lol so

locate pin 44 on ecu

strip back to bear wire and splice into the wire, now run the new wire to ground on car?

or am i way off the mark?

You just need to ground Pin 44. You can do this by earthing it to a good clean grounding point in the car , or my preference would be to one of the ground pins at the ECU loom. (ie. connect Pin 44 to pin 166 (or pin 10 or 20))
