Whilst waiting at the lights tomight I read the text on the car in front of me and thought what?? discount for unemployed...... am I missing something here? a week or so ago I had a conversation with BT about our low use phone calls at home as I use it for the broadband only and have a zillion free mnutes on my mobile we use less than a pound in calls per month, I asked if there was any better deal, after giving me some options we agreed on a good deal I was happy with, but as we closed the deal I thought I would ask if it could be improved upon, she said if I was unemployed I would have got a better deal...what??? so smarting from that I was dumbfounded to see the car in the picture.

I know there are thousands of good honest and needy people who find themselves unemployed but its becoming increasingly common to hear that once unemployed the benefits make it hard to compare working wages... or am I just lucky to not be one of the 2 million?

i dont think he is giving "discounts for unemployed, students, low paid workers" i think he is giving discounts for "unemployed students and low paid workers"

It winds me up! A guy I know (waste so space) got paid off and got a 50% discount off his membership at the golf club??????

Also, we had a leaflet through the door recently offering 'free home insulation' great I thou, I'll read on...

'if you fall into the following categories, 'unemployed', 'on benefits' etc etc

I mean wtf????? It drives me bananas! Of course there are many genuine people out there who are struggling but the amount of lazy, useless wasters out there is unbelievable.... And the government reward them for it? What a joke!!

I work hard to run a business, to give my family what they need and live a life we can enjoy. If I was to pack the job in, claim a bad back and take up crack I'd be sorted!

IMO the country is in a complete mess and it's on course to get worse. The government have zero grasp on reality and are completely blind to it.

Geeez, I'm signing out before I kick something

Apologies for the rant lol

Apologies for the rant lol

No need to apologise, I feel exactly the same, I got made redundant 3 years ago (because of the banks and government) I got straight back on my feet through hard bloody work and now I`m sick to death of paying VAT!!! EMPLOYERS LIABILITY, CORP TAX!!!,HIGH FUEL PRICES, HIGH INSURANCE COST!!!etc, the list is endless!! for it all to go to dicks who stay at home and scrounge from us TAX PAYERS!!!!

My kid brother has just left with same qualifications.. working security for the hospital now..

loves cracking down on the scum bags that hit nurses etc...

Good luck....

I think you should be paid DSS up to a month as your unemployed otherwise its get a job (ANY job, because there are always loads in the Job Centre - no excuses) or feed your lazy ass self from the bins

Should be like Holland. If your on benefit for too long the council get involved and supply you with a low wage job..if they don't take it they loose a large percentage of their benefit or all of it.. Imagine the outcry here!

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

on the first of may i had all of my top teeth out and most of the bottom so now i only have 10 left.

was wondering about having implants at the top front but they will cost me a fortune that i cant spare at the moment. Then noticed the fricking big sign that says if you on benefits you can get 4 implants for free! How the hell can that be the case?

Ridiculous, i work my arse off for a crap wage and they reap the benefit.

I agree to an extent and will be back later to bexplain.

Food and clothing stamps instead of money, the genuine hard ups that want to provide for their family would be happy with that, the scummers on the other hand would have no money for their beer/other habits and thus be forced to get a job if they want to live the scumbag life.

There are thousands (probably) of genuine people who have been put out of the working system due to lack of jobs at their level of income, and these are he people that the benefit system should be supporting, as they will usually be straight back into work when they can be.

Once again it's the minority (or maybe not with the numbers) who ruin it..... "I'll pop 12 kids out and then me and my husband can sit at home all day while the kids go off to free day care. Oh and the government will give us money for that all in sky package we want so what film shall we watch first!). ..... Shits!

Rant over :D

I'm glad saying rant over allows a full on vent! :D

Then again if the government would pull its finger out and stop selling all the industries we used to have to Europe then maybe there would be some decent jobs available.....

As for low payed jobs for the ones who abuse the system..... Have you ever looked down and seen how much chewing gum needs picking out of the pavements in the uk? That'd soon have em looking to 'better themselves'

Rant 2 over :D

Hope there's not a one rant card a day limit!!!! :D

P.s. if it cannot be seen in my writings, I do feel for people who genuinely need the support of the benefit system, and I feel that it's the minority who wish to 'play' the system that have ruined it for people.

I think thats how everyone feels bud. I feel sorry for the genuine people because they get tarnished with the same brush.

There are plenty jobs out there. The government could easily creat work if they want. Take the states for example. Somebody decides a new highway is needed... boom 500 jobs.

People just dont want to work. I had a guy who recently left our business and asked that i paid him off so that he would receive benefits. 3 guesses what he was told.

Also the system is way to easy to play. I know people on disability allowance who work full time cash-in-hand. There is absolutely no doubt that the government are to blame.

Infact, let me tell you some issues i've had recently as an employer........................

We have a woman who works for us part time. 16hrs a week. She is great, never late, gets her head down and gets the job done, always has a great relationship with customers. She is on minimum wage. Why? I've tried several time to reward her with a pay rise, but if i do this she will loose benefits and ultimately earn less. I would love her to work full time, but again No. If i was to do this she would loose her rent allowance and again, earn less.

We hit a busy spell recently and i took one of our guys mates on for a few weeks. He was unemployed. He turned out to be pretty useful so i offered him a part time job. This was refused, again because he would loose his rent allowance.

What an absolute mess!

At the moment Britains entire philosophy is bullshit. Benefits should exists, but only the bare minimum. Tokens is a great idea. Instead, they just get rewarded with everything. Things that people in full time employment cant afford. If they realise that they wont have 50" 3D TVs, sky, a new Vauxhaull Astra, and a 4 bedroom detached house, they might get their finger out and work for it.

The problem is, the majority of votes come from benefit seekers. The government know this and play on it. One of the SNPs recent 'selling point' - income based council tax??? What utter balls! Oh and our current coalition have reduced the maximum rent allowance to £2500 per month. What?????? £2500 a month???? Thats £30k a year rent. Thats a bloody good wage to afford that.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Rant not over :)

I do think that people who are unable to find a job should simply do community service for their allowance. Full benefits = 40 hours a week of litter picking, cleaning, repainting all the jobs the councils don't do as often as they should. The local environment would be far better for everyone and they are giving something back for the money they are taking from the government.

Its easy to try and blame the government for all this but really its the people who are effectivly robbing the country that are to blame, the government has to make the system flexible and able to provide enough money to genuine people who need it. If it was limited to X, yes 999 out of the 1000 above the limit would probably be on the rob, but the 1 person who genuinly needed it for whatever reason would be "victimised" and then the government would really be the bad guys. All it would take is some common decency, pride and respect and there wouldnt be this problem.

Its a bit like the take a penny leave a penny system you used to see occasionally in shops, works great until someone tips the bowl out and pays for their shopping. They have played the system in such a way that they benefit enormously but there is no rule to say you dont do that so technically they havnt done anything wrong!

Having said all that it does really boil my piss though that those of us who work 40-50 hours a week then have to pay for absolutly everything at full price and often grants/discounts are given out far too freely to people who dont actually need it! I have a couple that live next door to me, as far as me and the neighbours can work out theyve never worked a day in their lives, have a kid, parents bought a house which they "rent" no doubt goverment cash direct to parents who have told me they bought it outright! The lazyness is unreal, bins are collected each tuesday its often friday before one of them has bothered to walk the 25' to the end of the drive to put them away. Granted a neighbour comes and does mine as I often work away through the week, he makes a point of not doing theirs as he knows they are sat infront of the TV!

Both above point correct, but there's more chance of pigs flying than changing

A. The governments attitude ( because as you say, the honest worker as the minority no longer matters in the grand scheme....

B. a leopard can't change it's spots.

I've just got my teaching qual for my full time job, once phd is completed I'll be seriously looking at a different port to park my boat in!

Lol :)

And also as stated previously, rant cannot be over as nothing ever changes, I suppose the saving grace is the abusers of the system usually do laze about at home so at least they're not in my sight or in my way in traffic in the morning! :D

since the new goverment it has got a lot harder for the unemployed, they have to prove they have applied for 4 jobs a week (genuine) or the money stops, they simply dont get paid for that week and have to rely on family and friends for food and water

under 35's now wont get anymore than the single persons housing benefit which is named local housing allowence (lha) the single person under 35 rate in sunderland is £45 a week (this changes every year) if you are single and move into a flat on benefits and the rent is lets say £100 then tough, you get £45 and you have to find the rest yourself or get a cheaper bedsit

every long term sickness claimant will be hauled in and made to sit infront of a pamel who score you points to see if you should be on the sick, you can appeal if you get thrown off but they reduce your benefit from £92 a week to about £35 a week till the appeal is done (if you win you get all the money back)

you can go onto ESA but they haul you in all the time to see if you are fit for work yet and can put you onto jobsekers at anytime

also all the lazy single mothers who think they can do 16 hours and claim working tax credits to boost wages are in for a shock as now it is 20 hours they have to do and can only claim for this till the child is 7 years old then they have to find full time employment, and no company i know is offering 20 hours work so its either lose the working tax credits or get a full time job

i do understand that this will affect genuine claimants, but its time all this free cash was cut and people decided that claiming benefits wasnt a career but a neccesity if your out of work temporarily

what hasn't changed, is alcoholics and drug addicts bud. they are the scum of the earth, they sit their use their dole to get off there face, thieve and do what ever to get the next Fix.

Thats what they say...

Missus works for the job centre and they never get the benefit stopped. they are so overworked they dont get chance to check if they have been looking for work. its sign them get them out.. Government advertised positions and asked jobseekers to apply. they wouldnt cos the money wasnt high enough, it wasnt worth them working.. My wife would love to work full time but we would lose money taking child care costs into account..

If they are short they can apply for a crisis loan, interest free paid back a £1 a week or so.. half the time they complain cos they complain they wont eat asdas own beans etc...

in the centre they can tell the genuine people but the are honestly few and far between, when they get a genuine person in they go out of there way to help them.. but the majority honestly do not want to work and feel they are entitled to it.. They have had good increases in their job seekers, but the office workers havent had a rise in 3 years..

The amount of times my missus has been threatened because she wouldnt give a crisis loan for a new pair of trainers and on one occasion a new car becaus ethey felt they should have one on job seekers is ridiculous... when they do get the loan, 9 times out 10 they go stright over the road into the pub and spend it..

I listen to tales almost every night and it boils my piss... you dont work you dont feckin eat....

right...

sadly atm being unemployed is an actual carrer, working out the best way to fiddle the system is a very lucative way to "earn" money. the goverment have stepped in to make things harder for these professional unemployed, however all they hacve succeed in doing is making it harder for thiose that are honest to get back on thier feet.

some of you may know about 3/4 years ago i was made redundant from my goverment funded appenticship. the college made little attempt to help me and actually failed to return my calls and failed to provide me with any interviews or concrete leads what so ever. what they did do is continue to allow me to come to college so they got their cheque from johhny taxman.

i had until that point never claimed benifits, but after going to the job centre to look at the jobsm, i wanted something part time to pay teh bills and allow me to keep going to college while i saught a proper job again. i was told at that point they couldnt help me with a job unless i knew what i wante dto do and they couldnt help me if i wasnt claiming jsa. crazy really, basically i was forced to go on the doll to get paid!

fortunatly fairly shortly a friend had a job going in a bar and i applied for that and got it. which did my confidence some good after being made redundant. so again the goverment had failed to help me id had to help myself. meanwhile im obviously taking time out of work to gio to college, so they money deficit is getting bigger. in the end i had to quit college, and take on two part time jobs.

in the end i was working 80hours a week 7 days a week. for minimum wage and being taxed heavily for doing two jobs! so being well looked after again by mr brown at the time.

fortunatlky it all sort of worked out, i paid off my debts one of the "part" time jobs became a full time and i got to drop one and cut the tax, i later recived a rebate for a grand after they didnt cancel my tax code for seven months. i was still being taxed for two jobs! anyways i got a job as a swimming pool technician in the end brought the zed with the money id made from working like deamon and i now earn a 15k salary with benifits fuel card etc etc my jobs differnt everyday im never in the same place and i drive alot. anyways thats my little story.

sadly this doesnt always work out this way. i know of a few people at this moment in time, one being my girlfriend. who are out of work through no fault of thier own and want to get back to work desperatly. they will do almost anything. sadly though after hundreds of applications for minimum wage jobs they are still not employed. most opf teh work out their which quite correctly pointed out there is lots, is very poorly paid. although something is beter than nothing. and often parttime, its cheaper and more efficent to employ to part time workers at minimum wage than to employ one full time due to holidays tax etc etc etc. in factr many of the positions available are for as little as a contracted 8 hours. they then expect you to do the overtime when it suits them and your contract is temporay, see where thats going?

it sthe sam eold story those who dont want to do anything are laughing with an equilvent of 36000 a year per couple and those taht want to try are treated with the same brush, but not given the help. did you know if i was to loose my job and if my landlord was one that didnt except goverment cheques for rent id be homless an dthey would do sod all about it? if however we had a child we would get a house. well its common sense to see hopw to play that game. which is another problem all in itself.

i do agree that people who are long term jsa should be forced to work for the country doing litter picking etc to pay thier way. how ever their is two problems with that too my mind.

firstly parliment would never pass it, because it would be some stupid invasion of some idoits human rights.

secondly the unwilling workforce would do as little as possible.

thirdly, who ever already does teh job you give to these long term benfit takers will have thier job underminded and you will create a subclass of even cheaper labour.

increasing the minium wage would help to make going back to work profitable and desirable an option to the scum class, and would ensure those who do want to work for a living are rewarded better. however the downside is many buisnesses will not be able to afford to hike in wages and so it will again never be passed. it would also damage the ecconomy due to buisnesses wanting to cut staffing levels to offset it.

i dont really know what to do atm, as i said earlier i dont earn a great deal. i have 12 gcses over a c and 4 a levels but even then i cannot break out of the minimum wage or just above bracket. going back into education simply isnt an option for me at present. and well the last few years all ive seen is the harder you try the less teh goverment seem to reward you. this country has is priorities all upside down. im opretty sick of now tbh and like many people my age emmagration just keeps looking liek a better and better option, great britian is failing a whole generation buy not allow us to grow in our careers, and rewarding the no hopers.

i really think they nee dto pull their finger out because the gap between those who have and those who have not are getting bigger and bigger and how smart or able you are seems to ave little to do with your outcome in life. luck plays a massive part, but in the main the rich get richer and teh poor stay poor. no matter how bright you are. school really was a waste of time.

You can't blame the government for their shit benefits policies.....it's the consultants that they use that's the problem
