Bought an 03 Mercedes c200 Kompressor coupe and the computer is telling me there is to much oil in it:no: so poped the bonnet and looked for the dipstick but there is none! there is a tube which I think is for sucking the oil out but thats it oil leval is read by the computer only. So next job was to get under the car to drain some oil out so took the two dust shields of and I cant see any drain plug!!!!!

May be there is one there but I have given up on it. I will book it into my mates garage for an oil change and they can syphon it out.

Sometimes I think technology is going the wrong way.

Rant over:taz:

I have a c200K and I get that 'reduce oil' red warning on the display, comes on every journey, I do have a dipstick and the level is less than halfway  just press a steering wheel button and away the message goes.

I have also got error codes - I know what they are by the way but things do need sorting, so if there is a MB specialist on here feel free to tell me what to buy to make them disappear

I have had them cleared but they come back :crying:

Mercedes done away with dipsticks on many models - we have a workshop dipstick for all models with a scale on it to read of for specific models. The tube is for this. Some dealer use syphons but I hate them so we drain the sump the good old fashioned way! There will be a sump bung - some are in front while others are behind the front crossmember

:)

I changed my dads rear springs this week on his E class, What a pain in the AR5E!!!

Silly Mercs!

a doddle of a job (unless its a W211 model then they are a bit of a pain LOL)!! We fit bloody hundreds of springs!! :D

OK - without plugging your car in I have simulated a car - VIN starting 203042, check if this is your VIN after the WDB or WDC bit

engine codes:

200B - 2 options for this, there should be a code after this (not all scan tools will read it) but it relates to the intake or exhaust cam sensor

200F - injector cyl 1

201D - Cat Efficiency low

2036 - Speedtronic electronic accelerator Emergency Running

203B - ECU EEPROM fault

Some unusual codes there & would suspect it all points back to the last code indicating a duff ECU - might be worth seeing if the ECU can be updated on Mercedes STAR diagnostic tool first.

Transmission:

2502 - transmission slipping

220A - implausible signal between the 2 internal gearbox speed sensors

the 2 are probably related & it is either a bad electrical plate that houses the 2 speed sensors (a common problem) or the transmission really is slipping - check the oil level first (again you need a workshop dipstick) & correct if required.

Check for oil leaks especially at the gearbox electrical connector seals

let me know if you need anything else :)

Yes Paul no dipstick and apparently you cant even order them lol but I was speaking to a friend who is a Mercedes specialest with his own garage and he says I have a Mitsubishi engine! and would need to flush the engine put a good grade oil in and filter as ther is a chance it would break the timing chain so going to get that done. Never had these problems working on the zed but thanks for the advice Paul:thumbup1:

A Mitsubushi engine?! unless someone has been very brave/stupid with an engine conversion I would guess at your year you should have the Mercedes M271 engine, similar to this one:

That looks like it Paul and he called it a Mitsubushi engine I looked puzzeled at him and said "Mitsubushi!" and he said yes a Mitsubushi engine. May be he ment that the Mercedes engine had been fitted to some of the Mitsubushi models either way I will have to do an oil change mate.

My M6 is the same and although there is a "quick" reset option its supposedly not an accurate reading and it can take up to 30 mins!!! of driving to get an accurate reading on the "digital dipstick".....wtf Mr BMW give me a frickin dipstick please!

W211, it is! 2003. 14" Spring into and 11" gap. With no room to get spring clamps in!

What a top class answer Paul and much better than I was expecting when I hopefully posted, thank you sir

My vin is WDB2037452A.......

I do have a code after 200B and it's BANK 2-5, is this air flow sensor? Should I replace as the engine management light is on 24/7!!

I also have G3-1 after the P203B and M15-3 after the P200F, if these mean anything to you:huh: One is Oxygen sensor I think and should that be replaced, please consider the car as now done 80,000 miles!!

I have never thought that the transmission is slipping as it runs perfect when it doesn't stick in gears. So we are going to target the bad electrical plate and flush the transmission and give it a oil change.

Thank you again, Andy

Thanks for the advice Paul (have some rep mate) yesterday I drained the oil and just over 6.5 liters came out of it there should of been 5.5 liters! put in some fully synthetic oil new oil filter and new air filter so all is now well and no malfunctions showing. Heres some pic's

Well as promised Gaz some pics below, we have owned the car for about 6 years and is the sport panoramic version so it's the CL203 version of the W203, hence the mats, pedals, 17" alloys, etc.

Now I did have some gearbox issues which I mentioned earlier in this thread and we did try a transmission fluid change but this did not seem to work.

The part below as now been fitted and fingers crossed so far the gearbox as behaved as it should, this is part number 1402701161 and I picked it up on ebay for half the price of the main dealers - £126 paid and it is called a conductor plate or electrical plate

I have built up a bit of knowledge and the gearbox these cars use is the 722.6

We have also fit a new air flow sensor but this as yet does not seem to of made any difference.

I need now to replace one of the two lambda sensors and I too have that 'reduce oil warning' on the dash to attend to as an oil change as not cured this for me as it as for you?
