I could do with some advice if so :)

I have been told that for BT infinity they can only put this on the master socket - in my house I have this in my kitchen.

I want the router behind the TV where I have an existing telephone point so I can keep my media player, PS3 & sky box all conected via ethernet cables.

Any idea if this can be converted to the master socket in any way or is it a rewire jobbie?! I have read that they can join wires behind the master socket baseplate to the extension socket & convert it in this way - is this possible?

cheers in advance :)

I've just had BT Infinty installed and yes it does need to go on the master socket. The easiest way to connect your existing stuff to the router is via a "homeplug". This is plugs into a wall socket and uses the powerlines to transfer the network signals. You simply plug one in near your router and connect them together through an cat5 cable. Then plug another one in where you want to connect your ps3 etc.

These are the ones I got ;http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/27078382/Belkin-F5D4078UK-1000Mbps-Powerline-HD-Adapters-Twin-Pack/Product.html?searchstring=belkin&searchsource=0&searchtype=allproducts&urlrefer=search

I got mine from ebay for half that amount. You can connect as many as you want/need.

yea - I have seen them. Trouble is where my master socket is there is nowhere really to put my router other than on the floor! So I would really want the master put somewhere else.

BT have said they would run a wire along skirtings etc but I dont really want visible wires everywhere either! I know - I'm a fussy git but ideally I would like it somehow converted if possible!

I suppose they can move the master socket but they will more than likely charge you to do it.

If it helps it's just the fibre modem that needs to be connected to the socket, the router then plugs into this, so you could in theory run a cable from the modem in your kitchen to the router in your front room. iirc a cat5 cable can run for 100m before it looses signal.

yea - still no good as I would still have visible cables!

thanks anyway :)

I had to call BT about my ongoing infinity problems and I also asked about your problems;

They can relocate the Master for you and the engineer will do this when they install infinity, they couldn't tell me how much if anything it would cost but If you ring this number 0800 500 150 and select option 2 then 2 you can then discuss this with them and they'll tell you everything you need to know.

Thanks bud - very thoughtful of you :)

I will try ringing them just in case they have other ideas but I did speak to them when I tried to place the order & they said that they would relocate the master by simply running a wire over skirting etc. which I dont want.

I have read on the 'tinterweb that you can join some cables in the master to route this to another socket, making this the master. Now I know many things on the web should be taken with a pinch of salt so I was wondering if anyone had experience of this & if it really can be done
