Bent something on the rear hub...

Hi All,

Lovely weather for rear wheel steering innit??

Lost control coming off a roundabout last night in the wet and tw*tted my rear wheel against a high kerb. I've shaved the lip off the wheel but the main damage is behind there. All bushed compnents seem to be a bit wonky, I can only see one part that looks bent, that's a bolt holding an arm onto the rear of the hub (toward the rear of the car). The car feels crappy to drive - a bit like driving on those dreadful temporary road surfaces.

Anybody else done this (and prepared to admit it!!) - if so, what did you have to replace to get it driving properly again?

Ta very much for the advice AndyZ and AndyDuff, still scratching my head having looked at the manual....

Cheers,

RobH

hi robh,

i did this a bit back not in my zed though,

i changed all the suspension components and still it drove like a pig frown.gifso i took for a 4 wheel aligment)after £40 still felt different frown.gif so talking to many people took to be jigged £25 and the guy said the rear chassis was outside tolerances after about 1 hour he said it was fixed and now i think it is better than when i hit the curb(maybe it was out to start with??) smile.gifso know it back to normal(but the guy at the jig recommends jig first track after!!!)

hope this helps

Neil - where did you get your Z put on a Jig?

I have been thinking of getting this done before adding adjustable suspension bits.

What was involved? Can using a jig damage your car?

Any info would be great mate!

Ta,

hi trey

i live in south yorkshire,it was just a local bodyshop if you are around this area i'll give u there no....

basically they put your car on a bed and take measurements on all sorts of things

the guys say that only about 1 in every 5 cars are equal side to side!!!!!!!!

if your car needs any adjustment/alignment it's done using hydraulic pressure very slowly as not to damage any welds etc...

i dropped the car off one morning and told the guy no rush!!! picked it up the next afternoon!!!!!!!!

i believe alot of bodyshops/accident repair garages have these facilities and most of them i have delt with in the past are very decent...

OK, thanks guys, particularly ChrisC. This thing is damned dangerous. I frequently get out accelerated by all the crap cars ever made in the wet due to no traction whatsoever - surely this can't be right with good tyres, standard boost and a very light right foot!!!???

Got the car on the ramps last week and found it was the rear steering rack, one of the members was noticeably bent. Got one on the way from AndyZ - thanks Andy.
