Sandy, just pulled the rear subframe out of my car and found the top of the diff casing is badly corroded, do you still have the diff in the breaker and if so is it in decent nick.

sorry to butt in, but that's common mate. Just take a wire brush to it and spray it with hammerite. They're made of iron and often look like they've just been dragged of the bottom of the sea! Have a good poke around with a screwdriver and check for weakness but it's more than likely still solid.

Agreed they are strongly built, but this one is gonna take a lot of work to tidy up. The corrosion is so bad the strengthening ribs on the top have just crumbled away. My plan is to clean up and paint the subframe and suspension I don't want a scabby diff spoiling it. Saying that you can't see the top when its on the car so I may just clean it up and give it a lick of paint as you suggest.

ive still got it robert its now removed from the car you welcome to come and look at it.

Sorry for not getting back Sandy, been up to my ears in it the last couple of weeks. I'm going to try and clean up the diff before deciding whether to replace it.
