I bought a Meguiars machine a few years back, looks similar to that one, been a godsend on many occasions and not just my own car.

It looks very like mine but I find it very heavy to use and wish I went for a smaller lighter one mate

I think it's a fairly compact one Gary, similar in size to the Megs G220.

This is an expensive road you are going down  Have you tried these http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/cat_68.html

If you click on each polisher they do packages with pads and compounds etc. I have ordered a few bits from them and there service is really good

I have used these guys and yeah, their service is pretty good. The kits on the site are similarly priced tbh. I have had a few enquiries about doing some detailing as a side line so will recoup the cost fairly easily. I want one for my own vehicles anyhow. This is how my mr2 looks after a clean on monday

Got some new products for the wheels and they came up pretty good

So yeah, you could say I've got the bug :cool2:

It's a very popular machine amongst detailers.

It's a Dual action though, not a rotary.

If you're new to machine polishing that it's a great choice (being dual action) as rotary machines can be a bit of a handful if you're not used to them and you can end up causing more damage.

Nice pads included too.

There's better polishes, but as a starter kit that's pretty decent.

Thanks bud. My bad, it was a DA I was after as it'll be my first machine polisher. Would I be better off getting the basic kit and different polishes then? I think for the money with the pads etc included it's a pretty good deal?

Ok, so i personally would spend a little more (not much more) and go with this kit

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Kestrel_DAS-6_Megs_Kit_2_1.html

This Megs combo is very highly rated, and can give superb results.

It's just a polishing kit, so you will end up spending a bit more on cloths, and wax - but you may already have these?

It can get an expensive game so be warned ;)

You may want to consider getting some spare pads too, as you can get varying rates of cut with the polish buy using a softer pad, but once you've used the softer pad for cutting you shouldn't use it for polishing.

Hope that makes sense...

Also, just a couple more questions to get you thinking of more stuff to buy :) lol

Are you using a 2x bucket method of washing?

Do you have clay?

Do you have a wax or sealant

Edit: I'd like to add, that the first kit you linked to will more than likely be fine for your needs. It all depends on what level of finish you want to achieve (and maintain). :)

Yes, I use the 2 bucket method. Both with grit guards.

No, I don't have clay but would like recommendations. I am going to use my van as a practice at this!! My last two cars have had full resprays so didn't warrant clay i don't think/

I have a few different waxes, not sure about sealant/

Thanks for all your advice so far. I am more than happy to pay a bit more initially to get the right kit :thumbup1:

oh no! your hooked! lol I have a sonus clay bar as these work with a soapy water so no need to keep buying a lube. I Have a pot of finish kare 1000p sealent which i was really impressed with and good on wheels to. Im thinking about getting meg's #7 glaze and have just bought Autoglym HD wax which ill be trying tomorrow. Ill be doing a full detail on my zed soon and be doing a load of photos

Im still pretty new to detailing but have been valeting for a while now. I have clayed a few cars and never had a problem as long as you use a lot of lube hence why i went for the sonus as i can use soapy water. I went for this...

.....as i have done a few so im happy just to use soapy water. But yes it is a really good clay bar and the link you put up would be a good starting point just use plenty of lube and like you said before have a go on your van/old body panal to get confident using the products

Hey daffy,

Claying is a must before polishing. Ellodave is right with some clays ou can just use way instead of lube.

I currently use the CleanYourCar Own brand poly clay along with mega last touch. I buy the last touch in the 5l bottles so diluted it lasts ages and is multi purpose so very handy to have.

As for wax/sealant - use whatever was you have for now. Once yo get in to it you'll start looking for waxes that off different things. Some offer a deeper shine, whereas some offer longer protection.

Sealants are now very good and offer the longest protection if your not in to applying very often. Fk1000p as mentioned by ellodave is one of the most popular.

AG HD wax is also good.

Pretty much anything by Dodo Juice.

And a surprise entry which has been around for years and years and is still very highly rated in terms of finish is Megs #16 wax - dirt cheap too!!
