Hi Mate, i thought as you work for Merc you might be able to help me. My mate has a 99 SLK and the central locking doesnt work, he had the pump replaced and apparently wiring, but still no luck. Does the pump need to be recoded or could it be something else?

Many thanks

Graham

Hi Graham,

pump is certainly the most common problem - often water gets in there through the rear lamp seals - any signs of water?

Does the central locking work from the switch inside the car?

No coding - you should just be able to swap the pumps over.

resync the key - sit in the drivers seat, press the lock button on the key twice - put the key in the ignition & turn the ignition on then off - remove the key & press the lock button twice again.

If its not been done then also replace the key batteries

Let me know how this goes :)

Cheers Paul, will tell him to give it a go today. The pump apparently has been replaced, along with wiring, they have obviously missed something.

Im not sure if it originally had water in, although i know the Audi has similar problems, will take a look over it later today with him to see.

Will let you know

Cheers

Graham

Nope that didnt work, apparently there is a triangular orange light on the dash, if that means anything. Im going to have a look at it for him tomorrow, could be a door solenoid or electrical connection somewhere, if not will check to see if the pump has voltage and if any air is being pumped.

did you find out if the central locking works from the button inside the car?

triangular orange light in the cluster is the traction indicator BTW

Central locking is not working from inside the car or manually from the key in the door

central locking does not work from the key in the door anyway - its just an emergency manual locking/unlocking system

I will dig out a wiring diagram when I can - Merc system is not working at the moment, Ill let you know once I can log in & take a look. If neither the remote or the button in the car is working then it sounds like a pump or wiring fault to the pump issue - maybe a fuse has blown if the pump failed

Hi Graham,

check the small fusebox in the boot - fuses 23 & 24 supply the pump

if they are ok then check power/earth at the pump

in the plug with the larger size wires pin 3 is ground, pin 2 comes from fuse 24 & pin 4 from fuse 23 - both permenant lives

good luck & let me know how you get on! :)
