What temperature should the stat open

As above

Anyone know the definitive answer ?

What temperature should the stat open at ?

Featured Replies

76.5 degrees C

Yowser wins, because that's what it says on the side of my stat which I've just had to test :D Yowser, how much should the stat open? I haven't tested a brand new one to see and mine only opens say 3/4 of a cm.

10mm it should open at full if new and working correctly, 76.5 degrees is the temp it opens at, and 82 to 81 degrees is the temp the car should reach normally with the stat open.

That's what I thought. I've got a similar problem to the one you had a few weeks/months back, except with one difference, my temperature gauge (Stock one, so I know, can't count on it) isn't reflecting the temperature the engine is at. But the rest is the same as yours, got hot air through my fans, hot at the top of the rad, stone cold at the bottom. I've removed the stat and put most of it back together, will see how it runs with no stat in tomorrow, if I still have a flow problem I'll put my stock radiator back on to test (Thank god no one ended up buying it, lol) and if that fixes it, time to buy a new alloy rad.
