OK, here goes.

 

Parked for shopping last night, np problems.

 

Started up 1 hr later, HICAS light and HEAVY steering.

 

Drive belt is still there, no leaks, steering works except being heavy. Fluid level may be a bit low, could account for the light but not the heavy steering.

 

Any BRIGHT ideas PLEASE??

Is the car an import? If so it might be the speed converter/delimiter causing problems with the speed signal.

 

Do a search for more details.

Is your speedo still working? if not its the speed sensor, if it is still working check the hicas fuse in the drivers footwell, Good luck!

Guys - been OK ever since. Started up next day - nornal. Level was a bit low, so topped it up and it's been fine. Phew!!
